Summary: Love the Brand! 2008-10-03
Comment: We had registered for Wüsthof knives when we got married, but ones I wanted were only available mail order. Needless to say, we got a lot of gift certificates instead. My husband's boss bought us some LamsonSharp knives instead. He has a place in Shelburne Falls, MA where these are made. I thought they were amazing...at least as good as the knives as we'd registered for. My husband and I took a trip out to Shelburne Falls (about 2 hours for us) to look at more knives and bought several more. I didn't buy a bread knife at the time, because I figured it was a waste of money. A cheap bread knife should be good enough, right?
Wrong! I got into bread baking about a year ago, and slicing bread with a cheap knife results in uneven slices and tearing...not to mention the tiring sawing action involved, and whacking your knuckles on the cutting board as you get to the bottom. I decided to invest in a good bread knife, and didn't feel like driving 2 hours again...so thank you, Amazon!
This knife slices through the biggest loaves with ease. I make a large Italian loaf (scali-style) and can get perfect slices with maybe 3 or 4 passes of the knife. Also, the offset handle saves my knuckles. I'm kicking myself for not getting it sooner!
