Summary: Bad batch? 2008-08-07
Comment: I ordered this skillet from Amazon and, when it arrived, I noticed that a small area around the handle seemed to be peeling. I'm not sure what it is that was peeling, but there is some black coating on this skillet and it was coming off. I requested a replacement through the website - a process which could not have been more enjoyable - and a replacement arrived 2 days later.
Unfortunately, not only did the second skillet have the same problem, it was worse! The peeling area had already started to rust, which was exactly what I was worried about and what prompted me to return the first skillet.
At this point, I called Amazon and a very nice customer service rep simply issued a refund and suggested that I buy the item locally to ensure it is free of defects. I'm not sure whether this was simply a bad batch or if Lodge's quality is slipping. I hope it is not the latter. I can't review the performance of the skillet itself, since I haven't used it yet, but I wanted to share my experience, for better or worse.

Summary: great quality cast iron skillet 2008-07-30
Comment: Lodge makes the BEST quality cast iron cookware. I own several other brands of cast iron and this is the skillet I use the most. I would buy this item again, I give it a AAA+++.

Summary: Fantastic Skillet, but.... 2008-06-16
Comment: note that this skillet is not made for the average sized stove--it's simply too big to get even heat distribution. It's perfect for use in the oven or the grill. Clean-up is easy with a stiff brush and hot water, just add a light layer of oil afterwards to keep rust away.
Also, this skillet is quite heavy, so be careful--especially when it's superhot and full of food. Fortunately there's a grip on the opposite side of the handle for more stability.
Overall it's a great skillet and if taken care of correctly, it'll last a lifetime.

Summary: Really really big 2008-06-13
Comment: You'll never have to fry anything in batches again. You had better take out a ruler and peruse just how large this pan is before purchasing. The pre-seasoning is excellent. Only problem I see is that the interior has a roughness. It's definitely stick resistant but the surface roughness makes cleaning with paper towels difficult because the pan picks up fibers from the towel.

Summary: Good Value and just what I wanted 2008-04-28
Comment: I saw this pan in a local department store for $30 more thank the price. I ordered with resverations, who puts a broken pan on the sales page, and received it jsut fine. It was seasoned as promised and makes the best home fries Ihave had in years.
