Product Description

5 QT, Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Dutch Oven With Eared Loop Side Handles.
Amazon.com Review

The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box.

At 10-1/4 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep, this 5-quart Dutch oven holds a heap of chili, chicken and rice, or fruit cobbler. This model is not the campfire style, with legs, wire handle, and a lid for coals. This one is flat-bottomed to sit on a stovetop burner or in the oven, with a domed lid that sends moisture back into the pot. Loop handles aid in carrying with oven mitts. While the Dutch oven comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy oven with a lifetime limited warranty against defects, and when cared for properly, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations. --Ann Bieri

Summary: Fantastic Pot 2008-08-18
Comment: This 3 quart chicken fryer is the addition I was wanting for my cookware. My larger dutch oven is great for larger uses, but this one is great for things that accomodate my husband and I. I roasted, at 325 degrees, yellow squash, cut into chunks, today and it was fantastic.

I cannot praise Lodge cast iron enough for the quality in their products. My next and 4th purchase will be the 10 1/4" skillet. I already have the 13 1/4" skillet and it is fantastic for pancakes and anything that requires large cooking surface.

And for you people with ceramic stove tops....NO Problem.... I have done without my cast iron pots since Hurricane Katrina and when replaced all, I got ceramic stovetop. Thought I would not be able to use the iron...but I was missing cooking in my iron pots so much that I took the plunge....NOT A PROBLEM. Just be careful not to slide around and scratch the stovetop...and for goodness sakes don't drop this heavy stuff on it either.

If you want perfect bacon, just fry in the cast iron...cannot be beat.....really for anything you want to cook.

Thank you Amazon.com for offering these items at such a reasonable cost....

Summary: Great! 2008-07-28
Comment: Not only is this great as Dutch ovens go it's good enough that I've expanded my use of the Dutch oven! Five qts is a good size. It's not so large you are going to confuse it with a stock pot, but it's more than large enough for everything I've wanted to use it for.

It's heavy enough construction to really hold heat but not so absurdly heavy that it's hard to handle.

The MSRP on these makes them one of the best values in the kitchen; the price on Amazon makes it a real steal. No kitchen should be without one.

Summary: I threw it in the garbage!!! 2008-06-30
Comment: I read the reviews and thought that this was "just what I needed". The shipping was fine, the product WAS horrible. I tried the pre-fixing before I made my soup in it. The soup was okay (Lentil) but then it never got clean again. I tried re-oiling the cast iron and that made it worse. It was rusted and never got any better. Besides this, it was as heavy as lead. I could barely lift it to take it off the stove. I asked a couple of friends what to do and/or if they wanted it. No way! So, I threw it out!! Good riddens!!!

Summary: Best for Kitchen or Camp Stove 2008-06-26
Comment: I own a slightly older version of this model. I've owned it for about 8 years now and it has never let me down. This particular design isn't really intended for outdoor/camping but would work very well for that purpose if you set it on the cooking grates of your charcoal grill or on your camp stove. I will only purchase Lodge cast iron Dutch ovens and fry pans. Others just don't have the density and weight. The only problem I have with this design is the lid, which has small spikes that are supposed to allow "self basting." Do these spikes do what they are intended to do? I don't really know. But, one thing the spikes do is make it hard to clean and evenly oil the lid. This is only a slight inconvenience and really would only cause me to mark this down a half star but that isn't an option so I will give it 4 stars. One other thing I need to mention concerns purchasing Lodge products that are pre-seasoned. The pre-seasoned products are more expensive and I don't really think they are seasoned very well. I recommend you still season the cast iron as you would an unseasoned item. Better yet, purchase an unseasoned item if available. The only thing the pre-seasoned items save you from doing is scrubbing and washing the wax coating off of the product.

Summary: excellent product! 2008-06-22
Comment: Lodge Logic 5-Quart Pre-Seasoned Dutch OvenThe Lodge 5 qt dutch oven is perfect! not too big, not too small - just right for cooking dried beans and stews - and at a good price, especially with the free shipping - takes longer to get here, but that is OK considering the savings.
