Mizuyama Sharpening Stone - Medium #1000
- Medium #1000
- Ceramic/Synthetic
Product Description
Mizuyama was founded nearly twenty years ago, under the name "Vester Ceramic Whetstones." 'Ceramics whetstones' refers in the larger sense to earthenware, but Vester adopted a new means of production.
Vester began using a high-temperature sintering process which spawned a great contrast to the way traditional red whetstones were created. Sintering is a method for making objects from powder, by heating the material (below its melting point-solid stage sintering) until its particles adhere to each other. Sintering is traditionally used for manufacturing ceramic objects. Using pure materials without resorting to a mixture, Vester was able to attain a product not only less susceptible to warping than earlier models, but also one that retained its polishing strength.
This medium grade whetstone is a bit softer than earlier Vester models. Even though the fine materials are softer, it holds its shape and is not conducive to warping. The ability to regain the knife's edge on this stone is apparent with its process and finishing. This hassle-free, quick soaking, ready-to-use whetstone is the perfect tool for individual use or in any busy kitchen.
