"Bread box" is a term your grandmother knows, though her bread box was most likely tin. This one is plastic, but the principle is the same: To stay fresh, bread needs air--but not too much. Vents in this keeper allow proper circulation. The plastic slicing guide makes uniform slicing easy--starting at about a half-inch in thickness. The guide, however, accommodates a loaf only 5 inches wide, 1-1/4 inches narrower than the keeper accommodates. A wider loaf could be laid on its side for slicing, but the result might be less certain. --Fred Brack

Summary: Excellent 2008-07-20
Comment: This is the second of this item I have purchased. The first, which I paid quite a bit more for several years ago, is still in use and fine. However, I often have two types of bread available at the same time. Hence, the second keeper. This cleverly designed keeper and slicing guide do the job for me perfectly. IMHO, anyone who has a problem with them simply isn't using them as designed.
Hint: Regardless of the picture, the slicing guide is not meant to be left inside the bread keeper at the same time a loaf of bread is being stored.
Not rocket science, boys and girls, just simple logic.
And, by the way, it arrived quickly and very well packed.
A bargain.

Comment: I just LOVE this! It makes it so much easier for slicing bread and you can easily adjust your bread & eye it so that you can get thinner slices then the actual slicing guide provides. Because of gas prices & food prices. . .I make our everyday bread now to help save on money(and it is soooo much healthier for you and your family) and this item provides the storage and slicing guide I needed to be able to do that! This comes RECOMMENDED!

Summary: Underwhelmed 2008-05-05
Comment: I have had my bread keeper and cutting guide for approx. 2 weeks. The bread keeper and cutting guide have a nice clean appearance. Its functionality leaves much to be desired. The keeper is large and sometimes awkward to handle. I much prefer a used bread wrapper. The slicing guide is set for slices that are to thin. I find some of my breads falling apart after slicing.
I no longer use the keeper/slicing guide. I have cleaned it up and will be offering it to some lucky person at my next garage sale.

Summary: Does exactly what it promises 2008-04-25
Comment: Keeps my bread machine loaves fresh for a good long time, which saves me time and money as I don't have to bake so often. I like being able to see at a glance how much bread I have left. I don't need a slicing guide so I removed it. Easy to wash out, and it doesn't take much counter space. For the price you really can't go wrong.
