These glasses from Riedel are part of the Vinum Extreme collection, machine-blown, lead-crystal glasses whose forms are fundamentally different from all other glasses on the market. Named for their extreme contours, these glasses have diamond-shaped bowls that angle out dramatically before narrowing at the top, thus creating exceptionally wide evaporation surfaces that intensify bouquet and enhance silkiness in the mouth. This set of two glasses is designed for enjoying your favorite vintages of Cabernet and Merlot. Each glass is 9.75-inches high and has a 30.4-ounce capacity. Hand wash for lasting results.

Renowned European glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the wine within. To meet the demand of today's increasingly more concentrated wines, Riedel developed the Vinum Extreme line, which features a pronounced diamond shaped bowl. Oversized and extra-tall, each standing 9-3/4 inches tall and holding a whopping 30-3/8 ounces at full capacity, the two Vinum Extreme glasses in this set are designed especially to give Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot plenty of breathing surface. At the same time, the modern diamond shape looks distinctly snazzier than typical wine stems. Though Vinum Extreme glasses are machine-made to be affordable, the glasses nonetheless consist of 24 percent lead crystal for distinctive clarity and brilliance. The set of two European-made glasses makes a handsome wedding gift or augments an existing collection. Summary: Big Glass for a Big Red 2008-07-10
Comment: This is a very nice wine glass and the biggest red wine glass I have owned. It is significantly larger (28oz vs 22oz, about an inch taller and has a wider bowl) than the Riedel Vinum Red Wine Glasses I own. Personally, it is not as comfortable to hold due to the very large size. Also, be very careful hand washing all Riedel Red Wine Glasses as not to twist off the stem. I've done it twice when I thought I was being careful. My recommendation - skip the 'Vinum Extreme' line, stick with the 'Vinum' line.

Comment: If you drink good wine, you need a good wineglass. The Riedel Vinum Extreme is an elegant wineglass, with a thin lip to focus your attention on the wine, a large bowl for swirling and to collect the wines vapors, and a simple design. Riedel is the gold standard in stemware.
If you are drinking wine to get your girlfriend drunk, stemware from Bed, Bath, and Beyond will suffice. For the epicure, the Riedel Vinum series is well worth the investment.

Comment: Excellent glasses. I bought these after reading another review . The enjoyment with these glasses of the wine is definitely enhanced after i had wine in these glasses had the same wine with my olsd glasses i could not believe that a wine glass could really make the difference . i am so glad i bought these . If you are a wine lover then these are the wine glasses you want

Summary: Excellent merlot/cabernet glasses! 2007-06-20
Comment: I bought these for my father-in-law who drinks the same type of merlot every night. He called to tell me the glasses are wonderful, because he said they made his wine taste better! I told him about Riedel and that he invented tailoring glasses to the type of wine. I was amazed he could actually taste a difference!
