There will likely be lots of scoffing at Marc Anthony's interpretation--both on disc and onscreen--of late salsa singer Hector Lavoe. But let's not forget that Anthony is a salsa superstar in his own right. He has anchored some of the genre's most thrilling moments and has taken salsa to audiences not normally exposed to the sweltering sound. The El Cantante soundtrack is a solid effort, notable for Anthony's dedication to recreating Lavoe's distinct delivery and phrasing. Anthony is virtually unrecognizable during "Che Che Cole," "Quitate," and the standout "Que Lio," which makes the project all the more intriguing. Comment: I just don't see why people think this is such a great album. Marc Anthony doesn't sing as well as Hector Lavoe and it sounds like he is imitating him and at least I can tell, he just is not believable and if Marc Anthony is going to sing Hectors songs he should just interpret the music it in his own way. No one sings like Hector so if you like his music buy his albums you can't go wrong!

Comment: I loved the movie and the music so I bought this CD. I am extremely happy with my purchase. The music is phenomenal. Marc Anthony does Hector Lavoe some serious props here. Bravo Marc Anthony....the only disappointment here is the last trac, Jennifer Lopez's "Toma de Mi." IT TRULY SUCKS! The song stinks and her vocals sound like someone is strangulating a Sea gull. This should of never been included in this CD....Other than JLo's lousy singing and song, the CD is great. Buy it and when you get to JLo's song, stop the CD....

Comment: Marc Anthony is a great singer. I wish he had more tracks on this CD. I didn't understand why J-Lo had to be on the CD. She was not featured in the movie. She was not necessary. I would have rather heard another track from Marc.
