Summary: Fantastic! 2008-10-09
Comment: I searched for the motion picture soundtrack on iTunes, and they only had the stage recordings, so I was delighted to find it here. I much prefer Topol as Tevya, instead of Zero Mostel, who plays Tevya in the stage production.

Summary: this is a good soundtrack....but, I prefer Zero any day over Topol..... 2007-05-13
Comment: I was pleased to see that FIDDLER ON THE ROOF was brought to the big screen. The score is beautiful, the story is engrossing, and the characters are sympathetic and even (at times) humorous. My earliest introduction to this musical was on the vinyl recordings of the original Broadway production, starring Zero Mostel, as Tevye, the main character, illustrated as the dancing guy on the jacket cover, clicking his heels and taking a life affirming leap into the air. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF follows this humble man who has a wife, three daughters, good standing in his village and aspirations to be something greater than what he is presently, even though he is willing to accept God's will and fate for his family.
Instead of the incomparable Zero Mostel, they cast Topol as Tevye, our storyteller and struggling example of a man working through life's great struggles, to be a great provider and protector of his family. Topol has good range as a singer in "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Do You Love Me?" (song with Molly Picon, as his wife, Golde--originally Maria Karnilova in the Broadway production). The rest of the cast does a strong job with the songs, as well, and the music will make you laugh ("The Dream (The Tailor Motel Kemzoil)"), cry ("Sabbath Prayer," "Sunrise, Sunset"), and wistfully reflect on love's strength and power ("Miracle of Miracles," "I Have Everything"). Overall, a very strong production.....I just wish that Zero Mostel, Maria Karnilova, Bert Convy, Julia Migenes and the others from the cast were brought to this album. It would have been even better!

Summary: The Best Fiddler on the Roof 2007-05-13
Comment: I have both a Broadway and this film soundtrack of Fiddler on the Roof. Both star Topol as Tevye the milkman. I enjoy the film soundtrack much more than the Broadway soundtrack. To me, the singing and orchestrations of the film Fiddler are superior. I also feel that Topol gave a more impassioned performance in this 1971 motion picture soundtrack than in the Broadway soundtrack that I own. If you like Fiddler on the Roof and want to purchase a soundtrack, make it this one.

Summary: A Musical Celebration Of Life! ~ La'Haim !! 2006-01-23
Comment: 'Fiddler on the Roof' is in my opinion the best musical ever to grace the motion picture screen. That being the case what else could the soundtrack committed to CD format be other than a wonderful audio experience!
This version is the best of the best. Nobody can do Tevye the way Topol. 'Fiddler on the Roof' is a celebration of life put to music and song that will have you on your feet dancing around the room with your arms raised high. A CD for the Tevye in all of us!
La'Haim!!
