Summary: Not as easy as hoped 2010-02-08
Comment: We waited a long time to get this thermometer and overall it is OK. It is not ideal for taking the temperature of toddlers although probably none of them are. I have tried it on myself with mixed results within the same period. It probably as good as any.

Summary: SLOW.... and inaccurate 2009-12-16
Comment: This thermometer is SUPER slow. I had it all ready on travel and needed to check my 6 month olds temp rectally. Unfortunately 1 1/2 - 2 minutes later, nothing. I was so frustrated I tried to break it in half! I couldn't so that's a positive point to this thermometer. When I tried this product on myself it did take a long time (2 minutes and that is a generous estimate) and it was 2 degrees low (taken orally). I contacted the company and they found they were having the same problem. Maybe it was a bad batch? I purchased it in May 2009. They refunded my money (thank you), but I was still in the market for a good digital thermometer. I trusted the positive reviews on the BD Thermometer but wasn't happy with the product myself.
If you want fast, accurate and reliable try the Vicks Digital Thermometer Speed Read. I have one and am planning on ordering 2 more!

Summary: Love it 2009-10-18
Comment: I had been searching for a good basal thermometer and the ones purchased at CVS or Wal-Mart were lacking some important features. The thing I love about this thermometer is that it has a continual beep feature (which I admit is a bit annoying so early in the morning) but hearing the beep insures me that it's working properly. My temp is taken in about a minute which beats most competitors and it has a back light so I can see my temp before I shut the device off (it rounds the temp to 1/10th of a degree). For those of you ladies out there who are trying to conceive, you'll appreciate the fact that you can see your temp without having to turn the bedroom light on. It also helped me know if I was or was not still fertile. I highly recommend this thermometer. The only criticism I have is that I wish the beeping had a volume control so I could turn it down!

Comment: After trying numerous digital thermometers, some flex tips, some 8 second reads, all of which were wildly inaccurate, I read the Amazon reviews and bought the BD.
It has no flex tip and takes longer to give a reading. But the reading is accurate! It's the same as my mercury antique, which I'm carefully saving as the gold standard by which to measure the accuracy of digital models. I bought one BD to try it out and will now buy a pack of three to give them to members of my family. A great product!

Comment: This thermometer is inconsistent and recently read 97.2 degrees when I felt hot to the touch. I miss my old mercury thermometer.
