Comment: I almost never review products on Amazon, however, given that I relied on the reviews to buy this product I felt the need to comment in this instance. I have been using a Braun electric razor for many years, probably 3 or four models over time, and was in the market to replace my 8985 which was getting on in years. I figured rather than replace the blades for the third time on the 8985 I might as well upgrade to the "latest and greatest". Big mistake. I have been shaving with the 7-790cc for about a month or so now and within 8 hours of shaving it feels as if I never shaved. I waited over a month to write this review to give my face / skin a chance to adjust to the new razor as suggested, however, I am going to go back to my old 8985 since the shave was much closer. I would have expected a major improvement when spending over $200, however, unfortunately this shaver was a step backwards.

Comment: I haven't tried an electric shaver in many years, remembering how poorly they worked. The Braun 790cc is--in a word--amazing! It truly results in a shave so close to a razor that I had to have my wife verify it by rubbing her cheek against mine and she agreed.
It is expensive and the cleaner cartridges add to the cost, but as for results--if that is what is important to you--it's there. Now everyone needs to decide for themselves how important cost is. That simplifies the decision at least.

Summary: GOT TO BE THE BEST! 2010-03-18
Comment: My Panasonic Razor's head broke so I decided to research and find a razor I liked. Before the Panasonic, I had a Braun. The cleaning unit stopped working after two years. The Panasonic was a good razor--shaved close--hardly ever nicked, but the cleaning unit was extremely loud and lasted forever (3 hours). So I first looked at several of the Norelcos. Never had one. I read all the reviews and it seems the Braun kept coming up as better. So I read the reviews of several of the Brauns. I spent several days looking and thinking that this Braun was a lot of money. I'll tell you what. I am sooo glad I got this razor. It is a smooth, close, comfortable shave. Not quite as close as a manual razor, but pretty close to it. No nicks or scrapes even the first use. It is quieter running than the Panasonic and the cleaning unit is at least a third quieter, but lasts no more than 45 minutes. However, this model examines the razor to see how dirty it is and how low on battery. It then has several options it automatically chooses depending on its need. So, most days it does a very fast "eco" clean. I'll tell you, this has got to be the best electric razor yet invented. I highly recommend it.
I should also mention that Amazon.com is the best. It arrived quickly and undamaged. And prices are usually less than most other places.

Summary: One of the Better Electrics 2010-03-16
Comment: I went to an electric after 30 years of blade shaving. Years ago I tried a Norelco but realized I would never get a shave as close as blades. This Braun Series 7- 790cc though does a very acceptable job. It is not blade shaving nor is it supposed to be. It does seem to get better with each shave. I am very satisfied. It is a time saver and it sure is nice not dealing with cuts, nicks, and expensive blades. I used to skip shaving on weekends just to give my face a break, but it is so quick and easy to use this Braun that I don't mind shaving 7 days a week. Your face does need to get used to it though. You can irritate your face if you press too hard and go over an area too many times, so I suppose there is a learning curve and some conditioning required. But all-in-all I would recommend this shaver to anyone considering electric shavers. The cleaning system is a great idea, works well and overall the cartridges are not that expensive. My only real complaint was mentioned in an earlier review that only a few days after I purchsed this product, Amazon went and lowered the price. A bit underhanded if you ask me.

Being a Soldier for 23 years, I only tried one electric shaver over 10 years ago. It was a poor experience so I never believed an electric shaver could give one a shave good enough for a Soldier to stand in a military formation. I recently retired and figured I'd give an electric shaver one more try as I didn't have to worry if it didn't shave well. I purchased this Braun and received it on 5 Feb 10 (now 13 Mar 10). I have used it nearly every day, maybe not on one or two days, and was greatly surprised with the results. Everyone told me to wait four to six weeks for my skin to adjust and I would get a better shave, which I have, though the shaves in the beginning were good enough for any Soldier to stand formation. If I had known about this razor, or another earlier version of Braun, I could have saved many nicks from cold morning water bottle shaves when deployed. Nothing will be as close as a razor to the skin, but this is the next best thing. You can't feel a whisker when rubbing with the growth, and feel a slight roughness when rubbing against the growth. I guess that's the best way I could describe the shave.
As for maintenance, the Braun 7 is great. I shave, put it in the cradle, push the 'clean' button, and walk away. I replaced the cleaning solution on 11 Mar 10, so I had about 41 days on the first cartridge. The 'low' light was on, but I didn't want to wait for the empty light.
The trimmer works well, even for trimming up my haircut on the back of my neck and around my ears.
I have never used more than two squares of the battery charge per shave - even a long one when I first used it - so I couldn't imaging this thing draining a charge unless I didn't plug it in for a week straight.
If you want to try an electric razor for the first time, or if you want to replace an existing one, I HIGHLY recommend this Braun. It turned me into a believer in electric razors.
