Summary: Good for Small Spaces including Boat Cabins 2010-03-14
Comment: This is a "petite" dehumdifier as described by the manufacturer. Its for small spaces. I have two inside a boat cabin, now with 8 months of continuous operation with no problems. It uses a separate power supply module (a smaller brick style similar to a laptop computer power supply). These non-compressor dehumidifiers use a thermoelectic Peltier effect module to heat and cool the air causing condensation to form on the cold side of the module, which then drips into the capture tank. Same technology used for those portable coolers that you plug into a cig lighter. See Wikipedia: "thermoelectric cooling" if you want to see the science of how this works. The only moving part is the fan.
PROS
- Small size.
- Quiet, but not silent. Like a small desk fan on low speed.
- Since the water capture tank is on the bottom, the unit is less likely to tip over with water in the tank (boat use).
- Auto shut-down when capture tank is full.
- No sharp edges.
- Tank is easy to remove, drain and replace.
CONS
- Separate power supply module.
- Small water capture tank. (minor since a large tank would defeat the "petite" concept of the unit)
PERFORMANCE
In a humid and warm closed boat cabin, the tank fills in 72 hours. An effective device to combat mold & mildew in an enclosed space. The 120VAC to 9VDC power supply module gets warm. The next size up unit from Eva-Dry uses a power module that outputs 12VDC, potentially allowing for operation from marine/car batteries. Eva-Dry Edv-2200 Mid-Size Dehumidifier

Summary: Powerful little guy 2010-03-05
Comment: I got this for my bathroom. It has a window, but no fan and mold is a problem. This item arrived early, and it's very cute. It fits perfectly in the corner of my bathroom. It does not make much noise, but I still close the door at night because I am a light sleeper. I had lots of fun watching the water fill up in the little compartment. I was amazed to see it filled up in only 4 days! I guess that's how much moisture is in my bathroom. It's been almost a month now and it's still going strong. Glad I got this little guy.

Comment: I was very displeased with the product. It never made a difference in a very small room. It stopped working within 5 weeks. Waste of money.

Comment: I purchased this item to use in my bathroom. While taking a showing i turned the unit on and let it run for an hour after i finished my shower, i checked the unit and there wasn't even a teaspoon of water. i continued to let the unit run for an additional 1 1/2 hours and still nothing. don't waste your time with this one.
