Summary: Beautifully made gadget - but doesn't work for me 2010-03-14
Comment: Like some other reviewers, I was tired of the battery powered trimmers that consume batteries at a rapid rate, and then break after a just a couple of months. So, when I came across this trimmer with such good reviews, I thought I would try it. The machine is beautifully made - solid stainless steel, hefty feel, quality finish. It has the added advantage of not being battery operated. But unfortunately, it is not doing the job for me. I can't get it to cut hairs shorter than about 1/8" - these hairs are still visible. My previous battery-operated trimmer would cut the hairs almost down to the skin. And on the longer hairs there is just too much uncomfortable (sometimes painful) tugging and pulling. Maybe it's my poor technique. Or maybe my nose hairs are super strong and wiry. Whatever the reason, I'll go back to another battery-powered model.

Constantly pulls hairs, which hurts a lot and you constantly have to rotate the thing back and forth. Your wrist will give out before you are even done...

Summary: Works great. Don't be disappointed by the size 2010-03-12
Comment: Sometimes people are upset without knowing it when they purchase a really small item. Somehow they think because it is not heavy that it should be free. This is worth every penny. It is tiny but it is many times more reliable than the battery powered models. I don't understand the bad reviews. Mine works fine on all the nose and ear hair. It can even be used one handed. I don't know why men get more nose and ear hair as we age but since we do I am glad to have given the Groom Mate a try.

Comment: What a marvelous idea - non-battery operated nose-hair trimmer, had I known, I would have bought this years ago. This is the 3rd nose-hair trimmer I've purchased, the very first one was a battery operated one that got wet one day and the battery leaked into the device and corroded it. The second one I still have, but I've already replaced one corroded battery and I have to shake it or tap it on the counter to sometimes get the blades to start turning.
So now comes the Groom Mate Platinum XL Nose hair trimmer - a finely built precision instrument, just twist quickly back and forth and it works great. The first time I used it, I was shocked by how much it cut and the included brush was pretty handy, I thought I had Grizzly Adams inside my nose.
The only observations (but this is still a 5 star product) are that the trimmer itself is stainless and has a metallic smell to it and well..you're putting this up in your nose, so you can expect to really smell the metallic smell. Also, the included brush is extremely useful, as I don't like to get this trimmer wet (even though it is stainless steel), but I wish there was an integrated holder to hold the trimmer WITH the brush, as there is only a carrying case for the trimmer itself. Ever so often I have to dig into the drawer to find the little brush.
My search for the ultimate nose hair trimmer is over and it is this non-battery stainless steel one!

The Groom Mate is a finely crafted implement. Very solid and well made. I've
tried lots of different ways to trim my nostril hairs and I have to admit that
I was a bit skeptical of just how well this trimmer would work. But now I am
a definite believer that less is more.
The Platinum XL is an American made product that is friendly to the environment
with its battery free design.
I find that the cutting action is very smooth and that this trimmer actually
cuts hairs without pulling. My advice for proper use is to rotate the bottom
part of the trimmer in an even back and forth motion at any speed that you
are comfortable with. Overall, this is a very fine product.
