Summary: FURminator ROCKS! 2010-03-20
Comment: I have a long hair maine coon cat and constantly battle piles of hair all over my house. The FURminator has changed my life, saving the life of my vaccum and my cat loves not having to deal with his hair all the time.
The distributor I received it from mailed it quickly and efficiently-no worry or fuss. Thank you very much!

Summary: All that and then some 2010-03-19
Comment: I have 2 long haired cats that shed copiously. We have tried various shed brushes, wire brushes, etc with little impact. This deshedding tool is amazing. The sheer amount of hair that comes off of each of our cats is truly remarkable. I cannot recommend this tool highly enough. Along with the Bissell 3260 Pet Pack Vacuum-Cleaner Attachments our house is much less fuzzy. Both items are worth every penny.

Summary: Great, but fur flies everywhere 2010-03-17
Comment: This thing definitely pulls loads of fur, and our cat loves it, but be prepared to vacuum the area where you use this because the fur just flies around in the air like little clumps of dandelion seeds. I'm not sure how it could be designed differently to keep this from happening, though.

Don't get me wrong, it works great. We just would be more likely to use it more if we didn't feel like we had to vacuum and change clothes after every use! We end up using our old brush half the time that doesn't get as much fur, but is able to collect it so that it can be easily pulled off the brush and put in the trash.

I would still recommend it. She hasn't had a hairball since we got it. We'll see if that continues through the summer.

Summary: Not fur long hair that is tangled 2010-03-17
Comment: Hi I have several cats. My short hair kitten (4 years old) loves being brushed and loves this brush as well. it works very well especially in the spring when she is shedding her winter coat I get lots of hair out of her. I wish it worked as well for my long hair kitten but it does not The teeth are only about 1/2 inch deep and the teeth load up too fast. It is only one one swipe and they have to be cleaned off. Also the long haired cat does not like to be brushed by any brush. She is a scardy kat in its truest sense. She will allow it sometimes and sometimes will not. When she is shedding she develops matted hair which frequently becomes dense mats. The furminator will not go though these. It is useless in this purpose. However I did find a comb with about 12 teeth that does a super job. I do not know the name of the manufacture it is not imprinted on the handle, I wish it were but that works well . The teeth are about 1 inch long with a flat portion with sharpened serrations that will cut through the mats. The tips of the teeth are curved upward and help get under the mats and beneath the main matted portion. The curved tips help keep you under the mat and then you can rotate your wrist and be on the serrated cutting portion of the teeth This gets the mats and is a wonderful brush that gets the undercoat out in gobs. I brush her with this about once a year to clean her off when she is just about to shed It avoids the tangles and the mats It is the only thing that works well for the long haired cat that I have As I sisd I wished I had The name of the manufacture but I do not If I see another one I will add it to this review because it is a GODsend for this long haired kitten She is a sweetie and looks to be part Maine Coon

Summary: I love it. My cats HATE it. 2010-03-13
Comment: This thing takes off so much fur it is unbelievable. However, there are pros and cons to this device,

Pros:
- Clears cats of pretty much all shedding fur (if you can get them to sit for a brushing with the furminator long enough).

Cons:

- Tool does not capture said fur very well. Expect a big furry mess wherever you are using the tool. I capture the fur in my hand and roll it up and put it aside in a pile or in a dish when I can.

- My two cats, at least, HATE the way the tool feels on their bodies. I have to chase them around with it and switch between the brush they do like and this one. One stroke with the brush they like (a many-pronged metal brush)to one stroke furminator. They still almost always run off after a few strokes with the furminator and I do try to be gentle with it on them. Once in a while I can get them to relax for the furminator, which is usually when I am cuddling with them in my bed. Since this tool pulls fur out with no capture mechanism it just goes everywhere on my bed. Then I have to defur the BED.

This being said, I am glad I have the tool as it clears way more fur than the standard brush. I just wish they could somehow make it gentler feeling for the cats and figure out some way to keep the fur that is displaced in the brush until I remove it. I would gladly accept a little less efficiency for more comfort for them because then I would be able to get them to enjoy it, thus making it easier for me to use.

So, there is definitely a trade off here.

My cats love being brushed but they HATE the furminator.

I wish they didn't hate it because I love it.

Tip: A few good strokes with the furminator will release a lot of fur which can then be brushed out with another brush if you can time it right!
