Summary: Happy Neighbors or should be 2010-03-19
Comment: The bird house bark deterrents were bought as a last resort to having a neighorhood battle over my 5 little dogs barking and 2 others a couple of doors down bark more. But anyway these are working and wish I had known about them before looking into deterrents because I sure would have bought them sooner. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen myself how fast they stop barking. Mine bark at anything that moves and we have alot of stray dogs and cats in town that cause alot of the barking. Then we have had people just stand and aggreviate them into barking also so if any one told me I had to get rid of my little barkers it wouldn't be a pleasant town to live in for awhile would give the city officials something to work on. Has slowed indoor barking just alittle as long as it keeps them calmer outside is the main thing. By the way I am back for a 3rd one just because of the way our yard it set up.

Summary: Dismal battery life 2010-03-19
Comment: I bought my suburban home 3 years ago. I had no idea that I was moving into the middle of a freaking kennel club. Every other home on the block has something either yippin an yappin or barkin and howling. When several of them would get into one of their 'sport' barking sessions they could continue for hours. So I'm the the one that has to live in a cage. I couldn't even enjoy short periods of the year in the Dallas area that are nice enough to have the windows open.
I was skeptical about these products after reading the mixed reviews. I finally had to try SOMETHING. I bought one about 4 months ago. hung it in a tree, cranked it up to the max and pointed it at the nearest yappers. IT WORKED! For about 2 weeks, the batteries died. Eh, didn't matter. I'll change batts every 2 weeks if It gives me some peace. I put in a new 9V and pointed it at nearest beast in the other direction. I guess that one was less ignorant it worked even better on him.
Then the cold weather set in. That 9V didn't last a week outside. Fortunately the mutts were out less too.
I found a battery pack at Radio Shack for $1.89. You can put 8 AA batteries in it and it has clips on top just like a 9V. Trouble is 8 AA equals 12V. I was worried about damaging the product but tried it anyway. OH YEAH, I love it!. I hung that thing in the tree as the yapper was screamin at me... I flipped that swith on FULL power and that little @#*%(&! about jumped out of it's skin. For the last few days I'll hear a yelp now and then followed by a low grumblin' growl and that's about it.
I just finished ordering a second unit so I can have one pointed in each direction permanently. I'll have another battery pack ready and waiting when it gets here. 8 AAs should last a lot longer than that little 9v. I'll just have to find out if the units can stand up to my 'turbocharging'.

Summary: Great Product but be Patient 2010-03-14
Comment: I have three well trained dogs but next door, there are five menacing yippy yappy dogs whose owners don't spend a minute training their pets. They charge my dogs and sit barking at them all the time (my dogs ignore them 95% of the time but dogs will be dogs). I put up this product facing their fence and in just one day, I noticed a major change in their behavior. Over a week, they still charge my dogs when let your but once they settle down, they go the other direction. Following the instructions and be patient, it takes time to change a dogs behavior and don't forget, if you have dogs, train them, this isn't meant to train your dog for you but can assist.

Summary: This really works!!! 2010-03-12
Comment: We received the PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrant yesterday. I ordered it with some skepticism because it sounded too good to be true but some of the positive reviews convinced me it was worth a try. I have used bark collars on our three dogs which work pretty well except for our large bulldog who is very stubborn. Our dogs run up to our fence which is right next to a sidewalk and bark at people walking by with or without dogs.

We tried it out first inside the house because it was raining outside, and it worked immediately. We have a new baby in the house and the dogs would bark when anyone would come to the door and wake the baby up. The first time someone rang the doorbell one of the dogs barked and then they all stopped. This is the second day and someone unexpectedly rang the doorbell and the dogs, who would usually run barking like crazy to the door, did not even get up to see who was at the door. We have had to work with it in the house because any sound was setting it off so we finally put it up high and turned it way down and now only barking will set it off. So, now we need to buy another one for outside.

Our dogs are 50 pounds, 80 pounds and 100 pounds and it works on all of them. I would highly recommend this product and I am ready to order a second one.

Comment: Petsafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent

Ok - we were very wary but at our wits end with the next door neighbours german sheppard. We just moved in and he had been barking the entire night and most of the day. We thought that the worst that could happen was that it would be a nice 'story' down the road. My husband went on the roof to get a good angle over the fence, and as usual, the dog was going mental. He touched the battery to the connectors and the dog immediately stopped - before he could even get the battery installed!! The dog barked again, and this time, he ran under his porch and just laid down - nice and quiet. We took the birdhouse back inside and turned it off. A few hours later, he heard the pump start up and started to bark again. We brought the birdhouse back outside and aimed it at the wall and again, he stopped. Best money we ever spent. However, back at our old house, the neighbours dog - a lab- did not like it but she took it as a challenge and would bark at it and then try to circle back around behind it. We could tell that it was working as she squinted at it but she continued to bark at it rather than what had originally set her off - which was just as good because then we could turn it off and she was fine.
