Summary: Tidy Cats Breeze system.. 2008-06-29
Comment: I've had this for a few weeks, and I'm really happy with it.

The hugest advantage to this system is the urine is separated from the 'litter' and odor is greatly reduced. The litter consist of pellets similar in shape/size to the wood-based natural litters, but they are of a hard clay, which doesn't break down with moisture, and they keep their shape. Thus, the urine drains straight down through a grid to the pad (in its own slide-out drawer), and the poo stays on top to be scooped away.

The pee will not ferment with the characteristic stench, and you don't have to deal with clumping litter which doesn't really clump, and is just plain stinky and messy to scoop up.

The proprietary 'pee' pads are kind of like a giant maxi pad, and absorb a lot of liquid. Also, the bottom side of the pad is plastic, and the pad fits into the tray in a way that the plastic is upturned to keep the tray itself dry. Maintenance consists of merely taking the drawer out to the trash, and sliding the pad out, putting in a new one, and sliding the drawer back into the bottom of the box.

The litter itself are hard pellets, which hardly get tracked, and it is 100% dustless. A pellet or two stick to paws, but are easily picked up and tossed back into the box. Scooping is easy, and if the poo is dry, you can kind of shake it around in the scoop to knock off some of the pellets, then throw it in the trash instead of wasting water with a toilet flush.

It takes mere seconds to maintain the box vs. 10 minutes of scooping and scraping soggy clumping litter which doesn't really clump, but falls apart.

When it's time to change the litter (once a month), it just pours into the trash, no scraping the soggy wet concrete of old.

Some say you get a 'poo' smell, since kitties can't bury it quite like they did with the old type of litter, but I'll take that over the overpowering stench of fermented urine any day. And, the smell goes away quite shortly, just like human smell in the bathroom. Note that you should just use one bag of the pellets in the box, the litter won't be as deep. I just give the box a quick shake daily to even it back out.

Cat adaption to the new box: This won't work for everyone, but this is what I did: I set up the new Breeze system next to the old box (which was fairly gross, as I let it get bad) to see what would happen. I placed a clump of the old litter into the new box to let him know it was 'his.' My 9 year old fellow was pretty much using the new box right away (probably out of curiousity more than anything). After 3 days or so, I removed the old box and inserted it directly into the garbage, never to be dealt with again. No problems, 100% compliance on Max's part.

If Tidy Cats came out with a fully hooded version of the box, it would be great for the folks who have standing pee-ers, but my fellow doesn't do that, so I'm lucky.

Finally, some say the pellets and pads are expensive, but I estimate the cost as about equal to the old style of box over the long run - and the convenience and ease of maintenance should erase any other doubt.

Also, this system has the potential of keeping tons of conventional clay litter out of landfills.

Highly recommended.

Summary: Great System, Intro package needs more pellets 2008-06-26
Comment: This system is working very, very well for me and my cats. It took them quite a long time to transition, but now they are happy both urinating and defecating in two breeze-style boxes (I bought one breeze and fashioned another similar system).

Unfortunately, this starter package should contain at least two bags of breeze pellets. It contains only one. My cats have adjusted to the smaller amount of litter in the Breeze just fine, but you need at least another full bag of Breeze litter to slowly mix in with your old litter to communicate with your cats what this new box is for. I ordered extra pellets at the same time I ordered the starter system, but the pellets didn't come till later; and the cats didn't use the Breeze until I'd mixed more than just "a cup or so" (what the transition instructions say) with their old box. I'm patient but don't like a dirty box, so I kept cleaning my old box, and slowly added more and more Breeze litter to it. My cats completely transitioned over a period of a month or so. I took my time and was trying to use up old litter during the transition, but it took me about 2.5 bags of breeze pellets (including the one full bag that comes with the starter kit went into the breeze) to do my complete transition.

I would have rated this litter box system 5/5 stars, but the absence of an extra bag of pellets in the kit knocks the system down to 4/5 stars.

To those of you who are worried that your cats will only use the Breeze to urinate and not to defecate; just urinating takes quite a bit of pressure off of the old boxes. At just a little over $1 a pee pad, which lasts about 5 or 6 days with my two cats, it's a cheap and easy way to dispose of cat urine, even if you still have to scoop an old box with feces and sometimes a little bit of urine.

I recommend this system to anyone who
1) can't carry regular litter (because it's too heavy)
2) needs a dust-free system for an asthmatic cat (why I switched)
3) doesn't like scooping urine pellets, but doesn't mind scooping feces
4) dislikes litter tracking

I wouldn't recommend this to people happy with clumping clay litter, and it isn't a solution for people who love cats but can't stand litter boxes. It's still a litter box that must be scooped, albeit a very clean and easy to use litter box. I would recommend this to anyone who does not use or does not want to use clumping clay litter (dust, tracking, environmental impact, whatever) as I think it's the best alternative.

I switched from Yesterday News, which was a good alternative to clay clumping litter, as long as you don't mind the inevitable consequences (stale urine) of a non-clumping litter. The Breeze avoids the stale urine problem. Yes, the tray smells a bit when you slide it out, but I can't smell the urine at all when the tray is assembled (unless a cat has urinated in the last 5 minutes), and you don't have the unpleasant task of removing stale urine soaked non-clumping litter.

Summary: The Best Litter Box System, BY FAR! 2008-06-26
Comment: I've read several reviews and see that there are mixed feelings on the Tidy Cat Breeze Cat Litter Box System. After trying MANY different systems, this has to be the best one we have tried, by far! It took about 3 days for our 2 cats to adapt to it, which was surprising because one of our cats is very picky! There is no smell and less tracking than the clumping litter, just a few pellets here and there (one of our cats likes to bat them around the floor). I would definitely recommend this new system to anyone looking to get rid of the clumping stuff and the disgusting smell. It's also very easy to clean. I only have one tiny complaint...after the cats are done with their "business", it is a bit noisy when they are covering their creations. We absolutely love it!

Summary: More money out the window 2008-06-25
Comment: I was so excited about this product, as I hate litter. I have a brother and sister combo who are almost a year old. She is the only one who will use it and only rarely to pee.

At first they thought the pellets were toys and we found them all over the bathroom.

We tried the suggestions on the package to wean them off the standard box. After those didn't work, we even tried some of our own. Alas, the kitties still won't use it.

More money we don't have to spare, out the window.

Summary: Best Cat Litter Box Ever 2008-06-25
Comment: I've always been on pooper-scooper duty in my household, and, that being said, you can believe that I really hated traditional cat litter. My cat had a habit of going in and digging around and making the box a complete mess so that I would have to dump all the litter and refill the box over and over again, spending far too much on litter. And then I saw the Breeze and decided to give it a try.

Not only did my cat adjust to it super-fast, but now the messes are gone, there's no more cat urine smell in the apartment, and cleaning the litterbox takes less time than ever. I recommend this product wholeheartedly.
