Summary: Great at first, then... 2005-11-13
Comment: I bought this camcorder about 1 and a half years ago because I really wanted to start making movies. So, I went to target and bought it for 200 dollars which is a great price for a camcorder. It has 22x optical zoom and 880x digital zoom. I took it home and tried to make a short test movie. It was easy to use, had a great picture, and good sound. It continued to work until one day, I made a movie and when I watched it, it didn't have sound half of the time. I took it to many places and no one could figure out what was wrong. Other than the sound not working it was great and had many diferent features. One of the features was DSE or Digital Special Effects. They are:
Sepia: adds a brown old tone to the screen
Black and White: the way films used to be
Negative Art: reverses the colors in the picture
Mirror: a mirror image of the picture
Art: makes the picture look drawn
Mosaic: the picture - made out of squares
16:9: stretches the picture vertically
Cinema: a lot like widescreen
When filming out or indoors there are different Program AEs you can use when the light in the picture changes. If you dont like switching them, you can set them to AUTO. The PAEs are:
Sports
Portrait
Spotlight
Sand/snow
HSS
Many camcorders have different faders, unfortunatly this camcoder only has one, Black fader. It is however, easy to use and is a good special effect for the end of the movie.
Another featre is BLC or backlight. I use this when I'm filming at night or in a dark place. It really helps to brighten up the picture. If you use it light places, it might make the picture too bright.
If you are shooting a home video of your family or freinds there are some titles programmed into the camcorder to display at the beginning of the video. These titles are also available in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian. They can be White, Yellow, Cyan, Magenta, Red, Green, and blue. They include:
Anniversary
Congratulations
Graduation
Happy Birthday
Happy New Year
Having Fun
Its the Weekend!
Merry Christmas
Our Baby
Our Daughter
Our Son
Vacation
Party
Picnic
Thanksgiving
Weekend
My last advice is that if you buy this camcorder, be careful with it or the sound might die.

Summary: Great picture 2005-11-10
Comment: I bought this over 2& 1/2 years ago. The only problem I've had is the flip-out screen. It stopped working after 6 months, so I have to record through the viewfinder. But the picture quality is great for a non-digital format. It charges quickly. I do not film for hours upon end, so I haven't had problems with battery life. I had the camcorder in the closet for 2 months, with the battery detached and I was able to play a 2-hour tape on it to watch on tv. The battery still had power after.

Summary: Worst Camera Ever!!!! 2004-07-19
Comment: I have used my camcorder about 5 times, on my 7 month old's 1st trip to Disneyland I went to change the tape at the end of recording, and put a new tape in. After changing the tape, the camera would no longer play nor record. Of course I was just out of the 1 year limited warranty, and now it will cost almost as much to fix the camera as it would to buy a whole new one. It has never been dropped, nor mistreated. It just stopped recording or playing for no reason at all. What a waste of money.
