Summary: Tossed after a few months 2008-05-09
Comment: Never again. I consider myself to be a neat freak, and I'm very conscientious about cleaning and maintaining our daughter's humidifiers. In the case of this particular device I ended up buying bottle water from Lowes to assure the water coming out of the device was better than the average tap water in most municipal water systems. Still, I ended up cleaning the base (that holds the water prior to being humidified) every few days. Overtime the section that creates the mist deteriorated(black flaking) and the water in the base would become unsightely and looked like algea was growing on and around the black disc. It got to be such a chore to keep the water presentable (frankly it got to be so disgusting) that I finally tossed the device this past week and plan to buy another style, one that does not require a filter like our other model, or anything similar to this unit (i.e. HONEYWELL ENVIRACAIRE HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon Humidifier). On the other model (Graco 4 Gallon Humidifier) we end up replacing the filter (Graco Humidifier Replacement Filter for 4.0 Gallon) every 2-3 weeks because the filter starts to turn color and mildew. Keep in mind, all of this has been happening with bottled water, which is a pretty expensive option for running any sort of humidifier for a 1 to 3 yr old, as we have.
I am surprised more people aren't reporting the same problem we had with the CRANE humidifier. The product seems to have an inherent design flaw based upon our experience and we certainly don't have the time to change the water and clean the device more frequently than we had been doing, which was 2-3 times a week. Who has that kind of time when you're chasing a 1 and 3 yr old around the house!

Comment: We live in the arid conditions of Las Vegas; the winters here are pretty harsh on the system (Low humidity, dust devils, hard water, etc)
DH and I developed dry skin conditions after a couple of winters, so we bought a humidifer from a well known pharmacy out of desperation -bad move- we should have researched it! Non-filter, noisy, left the well known white mineral powder all over the furniture (even with distilled water) not to mention it also left us with an awful smell and taste in our mouths in the morning...Yuck!
DH and I not being fickle purchasers, we really tried to make it work for us, but enough was enough!
So off surfing Amazon I went-I'm a great fan of Amazon and it's users, without their reviews I wouldn't have found this great product!
I bought the Dragon shape, the mist comes out of two slots on top of it's eyes, I use it everynight on mid-high output and so far it's had no problems. It's really cool to look at but more importantly- IT WORKS!
It's not noisy, except for the odd bubble here and there while the water level goes down, you can control the output, the mist is almost invisible
(I still use distilled as we don't have a water softner in the home yet)
No weird taste and our sinus issues are no longer, it's even helped with DH's snoring!
Personally I did't find any cons, the other reviewers who gave it 1 star must have had duds, but c'mon people it's a machine...they're not all going to be perfect and even so- Amazon will replace it with another one! Win-Win!
These Crane ultra sonics are all 1 gallon, when you re-fill it you can't put it on a flat surface because the handle used to lift it out of the base is in the way, but that doesn't phase me,doesn't make me want to give it a negative review - just use common sense and place it on a bunched up towel and hold it with the other hand.
The odd poor review shouldn't give you a bad impression, not all machines are going to suit everyone, but ultimately it's the design you choose which makes it the one for you.

Summary: Smooth and quiet 2008-05-03
Comment: I bought 2 units from Amazon, but one came cracked on the bottom.
It is an excellent humidifier.
It is so quiet I often thought it is off.
One thing users should note is to get it elevated.
The mist doesn't boost so high if you leave it on the floor.
My daughter has serious dry skin so I elevate this next to her bed on top of the desk and you can see the mist gently fall on her face and body while she sleeps.
Great product. Highly recommended.

Summary: Broke after 2 uses 2008-05-02
Comment: Used this frog humidifier 2 nights, turning it off during the day, and by night 3 it no longer worked. Had it continued to work, it would have been a great unit, my kids thought it was cute, it pushed the vapor up into the air, was easy to fill, etc. I was really disappointed when it quit working. If you do decide to buy this unit, make sure it can be returned without too much trouble - just in case.

Comment: It's cute, it works, it's easy to refill, and it's inexpensive. We've had it for 6 months, no problems. We just ordered a second one for another room.
