Product Description
Never be locked out of your home or car again. The Locking Stor-A-Key is a secure key holder that lets you hide your house or car key in a discreet spot for emergency access or just as a spare. Attach this key holder in any convenient location: Its powerful magnet will adhere to a wheel well or magnetic grill cover, and it also comes with adhesive tape to hold it in place anywhere. A user-settable combination lock adds security to the standard hide-a-key system for added peace of mind. This extra-large container holds most auto and home keys, and it's even weather resistant. This device is also available in a portable version. If you don't need the added security of a combination lock, a simple, magnetic Stor-A-Key is also available. For maximum security, mount the Digital KeySafe in a convenient location. This key storage device requires that a digital PIN be entered to release your key.

Summary: They keep breaking 2008-11-02
Comment: I've bought 3 of these boxes and they are a great idea. However, after a few weeks the door jams and I can't open or close it.

Summary: Useful, depending on your purpose 2008-09-23
Comment: Depending on where you're leaving this Key Case, it may not suit your needs. This is simply used to store a key, just in case I lock myself out.
- Lock
The combination lock is handy, especially since it's programmable and it has the sliding cover. This keeps dirt and grime from clogging the dials.
- Magnet
The magnet is VERY STRONG! Whether you're hanging the case vertically or upside down, rest assured that this item will stay in place. It comes with an extra piece of metal and the backside is adhesive. So if your hiding place doesn't have anything metallic, you can stick the metal plate onto a non-metal surface. But I have to reiterate how strong the magnet is...I feel like the magnet is so strong that wherever you affix the metal plate, I don't think the adhesive will last too long before the magnet rips it off! You can try it...but you might want to consider using some glue after your super duty magnet rips the plate right off the adhesive!
- Plastic
Yes, the key case is made out of plastic. No, I haven't tried to break it with my bare hands...but since it IS made out of plastic, I can see that it wouldn't be a very hard task. Other reviews have said that they can pull it open with their own bare hands. Bravo. If a dude's going to break into my car/house, please use the key instead of jimmying my lock, breaking my window or kicking down my door. It will cost less to replace my lock...shoot, maybe I can even sell my old lock!
This item is not for the super paranoid. If you're afraid of transients or people with malicious intent to get a hold of your key, this item is not for you. GE states that the combination lock is an "extra level of deterrence." Take that with a grain of salt. If you're the least bit worried about having your key out of your own control, I don't think this item is for you. Try one of the more durable keyboxes made for the super paranoid and professional real estate agents.

Summary: Good for the price 2008-08-12
Comment: While I'm sure that you can smash this case with a hammer or rock, I still think that it adds security over the simple "hide a key" case that I've had before. It has a much better magnet. The foam inside keeps the key from rattling. The gray color keeps it from being easily seen. It seems to seal up well to keep out moisture. I think it seems like a good deal for the price.

Summary: Easy to force open without tools 2008-07-10
Comment: This thing is so weak that I could open it in seconds with my bare hands.
I did so, and threw it in the trash. A better choice would be an all metal keysafe. But my friend taught me a better way to store a spare key in the car for free. Wrap the key up in bubble wrap or something so it doesn't feel like a key, then put a few layers of duct tape over that, and put a misleading label on it like "spare fuses" or "mini first aid kit". Then put it somewhere out of the way in the car, like behind the tailight access covers in the trunk. The tape and duct tape mean it won't rattle around in your car on bumpy roads, and will deter people who come across it (e.g. car repair people) from opening it. My friend says the police once searched his car for contraband for an hour, and even they didn't bother opening it up when they found it.

Summary: Terrible "buy it with" 2008-07-06
Comment: The actual keyholder does work very well. BUT I would rate VERY negatively that they sell this with the license plate hider...just one problem, it doesn't fit in the license plate hider. Wasted money.
