Editorial Review

Burnt sienna, olive green, thistle--the nostalgic favorites are all here, along with new options like "tickle me pink" and "laser lemon." Three boxes of crayons are ready to open up and dump willy-nilly on the pages of coloring book. The only possible improvement on this package would be a roll of butcher paper for instant mural making. --Claire Dederer

Summary: No one can beat the original "Crayola" 2000-12-28
Comment: I'm a 28-year-old medical transcriptionist, but in my spare time I sometimes like to color in coloring books as a form of relaxation. I have tried other brands of crayons, but those brands have been subpar. Crayola has always been the best quality.

Summary: Unexpected Surprise 2000-01-06
Comment: When I ordered this, I thought it would be just one big box of crayons. At first I was slightly disappointed when I received a pencil box with two boxes of 48 count crayons and a 24 count box, plus 6 little colored pencils. I thought I could have just bought this in the store and not paid shipping! However, upon further examination--hands on, of course, coloring in a color book with my daughter!--I saw that all the boxes had different colors. There were so many different colors! I was more than pleased and even ordered another box!

Summary: Now this is a box of crayons! 1999-10-21
Comment: I bought this box of crayolas for my five year-old sister-in-law on her birthday. Of all the toys and dolls she'd received, I've been told that this was her favorite gift! Along with this super box of colors, I bought her some art paper, watercolors, brushes -- the whole artist's toolkit, if you will. The expensive dolls and fancy toys are forgotten, but her mother tells me that the crayons are still out on the table every day. A great gift, not expensive, and hey, it's fun for us big kids, too!

Summary: Fie on the upper age limit! 1999-09-17
Comment: Too old for crayons . . . never. I am in college now, and one of my first purchases at the campus bookstore (once the textbooks were out of the way) was a box of Crayolas. not as fancy as these, but still. I wrote four of my winter quarter papers in crayon and got A's on all four . . . so I guess the educational level is pretty high. Viva los colores!

Summary: So much fun with so little mess! 1999-09-12
Comment: Most of us grown-ups remember the thrill of getting a new box of crayons- all those beautiful sharp colors standing at attention. They even smelled good. The Giant Chest is even better, because Crayola now has more colors and gimic-crayons, while still carrying the old classics. I've bought bargain-price crayons before, but was very disappointed in the poor color quality. Not so with Crayola- the colors are bold and bright. Unfortuntely, most crayons will eventually break in over-eager hands- luckily, with this set you have duplicates of most colors. Try recycling the shavings by ironing them between sheets of waxed paper to make neat stained-glass effects (with adult supervision and permission, of course).
