Product Review
Product Description

The award-winning and best-selling Kid-Tough Digital Camera was the first preschool digital camera tough enough to stand up to rough preschooler use and easy enough to use. And it just got even tougher-- tough enough to stand up to water! New, enhanced "kid-tough" styling means this camera is now waterproof. Plus, it maintains all its favorite features, like an easy-to-use format and simple buttons. The 1.5" color LCD preview screen allows kids to instantly see the picture they've taken and view or delete previous shots. Image resolution of 1.3 or 0.3 megapixels provides quality 4" x 6" prints.

Additional features include auto flash, 64MB of flash memory for storing up to 500 pictures, USB cable for computer connection, dual handle grips and a two-eye view finder that makes it easy for kids to take great pictures. Requires 4 "AAA" batteries, not included. Measures 5.4" x 2.7" x 3.7".

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Durable, easy way for kids to experience photography

The Bad: May seem bulky in little hands

In a Nutshell: This Fisher-Price camera really is Kid Tough.
At a Glance

Ages: 3 and up
Requires: Four AAA batteries
Easy to Start Taking Pictures
An adult will need to use a screwdriver to install the four AAA batteries before kids get their hands on this camera. With a textured button on the front that releases the shutter, and large buttons on the back that let little hands turn the camera on and off, browse through pictures, and delete images, this camera is so easy to use that you don't even need instructions.

The fun, brightly colored body helps distinguish this camera from boring adult models, making it an instant favorite.

Kid-Friendly Technology
Kids can pick between using the live view on a 1.5-inch color LCD preview screen or looking through the two-eye viewer when taking pictures. The preview screen also lets kids look at pictures the moment after they take them. With a built-in flash that automatically illuminates darkened scenes, and a shutter noise that makes it easy to know when a picture has been taken, kids are sure to be delighted by their images.

The 64 MB built-in memory stores up to 500 pictures and eliminates the need for handling fragile and expensive memory cards. Two image resolution settings, 0.3 and 1.3 interpolated mega pixels, let kids take tons of pictures and make 4 x 6-inch prints.

Fun, Durable Way to Encourage Creativity
With its big rubberized grips and sturdy construction, we found this camera lived up to its incredibly durable reputation. Able to easily withstand being dropped again and again and waterproof for 30 minutes in up to three feet of water, this camera can handle the rough reality of active play.

The heavy-duty construction that makes this camera so durable also made it seem somewhat bulky for little hands, but this didn't prevent kids from wanting to take it on all their adventures.

Older children and adults may be disappointed by the image quality, but higher resolutions would allow less pictures to be stored and decrease the amount of fun children have with this camera. Kids quickly find that there's plenty of resolution for exercising creative urges and documenting the wonders of everyday life.

The camera comes with a USB cable so pictures can be downloaded quickly and easily for editing and viewing. It is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Apple Mac OSX, Apple Mac OS9 and requires a USB port 1.1 or higher for computer connectivity.

Summary: Pleasantly Surprised 2008-11-13
Comment: I bought this for my 3-year old. I was concerned about the poor resolution these types of cameras offer. In the end, the images are more than acceptable for a child. I wish the LCD screen was a bit larger and clearer, but uploading pictures to the computer and online is super easy. I added some pictures to the images section for this product.

For the $50 price, it seems like a good value. I purchased rechargeable batteries so I wouldn't have to worry about the expected poor battery life.

Summary: I am buying this for my daughter because of the Frustration Free Pkg. 2008-11-04
Comment: Thank you, Jeff Bezos and FP for finally doing something to address the environmentally irresponsible and incredibly annoying packaging problem! I am buying this for my daughter for Christmas to support your efforts, and I encourage other parents to do the same. Just say no to sixteen layers of plastic and cardboard and three feet of steel ties!

Summary: Broke after two weeks 2008-09-18
Comment: I purchased this camera for my children (6,4 & 2 yrs old) They loved it! Especially that it had a screen where they could actually see the picture they took. I wanted a camera that was durable. It uses up batteries pretty fast. And after 2 weeks, the camera just stopped working. My kids did not drop it or even play rough with it. I tried different batteries, but it just would not turn on. What an expensive mistake I made buying this camera. For something that is supposed to be kid-tough, I don't think it is at all.

Summary: Great for little one's 2008-06-18
Comment: We got this for our 3yo and she loves it! Compared to the very first one that came out (our 6yo got one 3yrs ago) I think the buttons have to pushed down a lot harder and that might be diffucult for some. I like how there is a way to have a higher resolution. The camera goes from 640x480 to 1280x960. All in all, I think this is a great camera for little one's!
