LittleTouch LeapPad books and cartridges sold separately. Requires 4 "AA" alkaline batteries, not included. Editorial Review
With a little help from a bigger friend (parent, guardian
), young children can launch into the world of learning via interactive books. Little Touch LeapPad is designed for tots 6 to 36 months, with three distinct levels of activities and stories: musical rhythms and sounds; short descriptive phrases; and rhymes and early learning. Stories or activity cards snap into the book frame, along with a story cartridge. Grownups will need to help little ones activate the book pages by touching the "Go" button every time a page is turned, as well as showing young "readers" how to touch pictures to make them come to life with developmentally appropriate narration and learning activities. A comfy cushion is attached to the LeapPad platform for cozy shared reading time. Four AA batteries required (not included). --Emilie Coulter

Summary: for my grandson 2008-10-24
Comment: Little Touch LeapPad I bought this for my Grandson who lives 3 states away. Though I haven't seen him interact with the toy, my daughter just raves about it. I was happy to find out she recieved the toy in 3 days...though I thought it would take a week or so.

Summary: Wasn't worth it. 2008-09-25
Comment: We purchased this toy for our DD when she was 1 year old. She is now 5, we have another child who is 3 and neither of them have really cared for this toy.
It is awkward to use. Sometimes you can press right over a symbol and get no response. That is frustrating for a toddler. This requires a lot of help and IMO you may as well forgo the electronic experience and just buy a lot of books in place of this gadget. When you think of the cost of buying this, and the cartridges...you could have quite a nice library of books bought for the same amount of money. (especially if you use Amazon's 4 for 3!)
If I had it to do over again I would have found one for sale at a yard sale to see if the kids would use it. Seems there is a glutton of used ones out there...

Summary: Again Leap Frog fails me... 2008-08-12
Comment: Another christmas gift for my 1 year old now 20 months... he goes nuts with the volume controll, I tried to use it in the car while I drove, so he would have some entertainment... DONT DO IT.. I kept reaching back to reset it for each page.. not safe!! this is another toy you have to sit with them to get it to work, my son who is very independent, hates when I try to get it working for him, he gets upset with me and switches to another page... so for US its not good... if your child likes to sit in your lap and lets you turn the pages this would be great... I like that they have Dr Suese books for this! thats a + but I have only found Mr Brown can Moo... dont know if there are others and we are not getting any more leap frog items... I hope this review helps someone with a child like mine... also very durable... he throws it down in the car all the time, carry case was nice, since it keeps everything together in the closet haha

Summary: Great for toddlers and preschoolers 2008-07-07
Comment: My oldest son received a Little Touch LeapPad for his 2nd birthday. When he first played with it he didn't understand how to make it work (pushing the green "go" circle on the side of the page, etc.) and needed my help. Over the next two years he played with it off and on, and slowly began to get better at navigating the pages.
He is now 4 1/2 and this has become his favorite toy. He is an expert at controlling all aspects of it. I could go on and on about how much he has learned using this product. He loves 'Lulu the Letter Spinning Spider" book, which has effortlessly taught him his letters and letter sounds, in a fun and interactive way. His 2 year old brother loves it too, and sometimes they fight over who gets to control it. It gets hours and hours of use. It was great on a 4 hour road-trip this week and kept my son busy and happy the entire time.
Other favorite books are "Pooh Loves You," "Stella the Singing Songbird," and "Animal World."
People who are giving this less enthusiastic reviews seem to have younger children. I know the LeapPad is marketed for babies and toddlers, but give your child some time. Older children will love it.
I love that it is an engaging and educational toy. My kids don't watch TV, so this is a wonderful and exciting way for them to learn.
