Summary: Great Game ONLINE 2008-11-04
Comment: This is a great game online. Short though on the real game. This is more to play online, so if you do not have internet you may want to pass on this one. The only thing is now it is harder to get a game online, because everyone is playing it now. And it is not fun when the host of a game boots you off. Make a lot of freinds online, so they could invite you to play a game and boot someone else off. Also put this game away if you are taking 9 or more hours at a university. You will not get any homework done, I swear. I am soooo behind it hurts and also DO NOT FORGET TO BLINK. I think my eyes dried up and they were hard to close and open. So blink after every few seconds. Great FUN!!!

Summary: The Game That Sold Me on the PS3 2008-10-26
Comment: This is the game that made me decide to buy a PS3. I'd only had a Wii before, and figured that was enough. Then for Christmas one of my friends bought this for himself as a "present" along with a PS3, and invited me over to play it. The moment it started up I realized I needed to get this game.

The cinematics and graphics really are top-notch. Even though it's an older game by now (the next Call of Duty is already slated to drop in less than a month), this still holds up among many of the newer games coming out. I dare you not to drop your jaw when you go through the "Shock and Awe" level...just amazing.

The gameplay is really easy to get ahold of. I'd always been a fairly loyal Nintendo fan, so I hadn't played a lot of First Person shooters, but within 20 minutes or so I was blowing through the easy difficulty. The game does ramp up considerably for the hardcore crowd though, so if you really want to put your skills to the test, this is the game for you.

Speaking of putting your skills to the test. This is the one warning and the one "bad" thing I have to say about the game. This game has been out for almost a year, and some people have been playing it non-stop since it came out. If you go online you will die. A lot. I mean it, you will not know what hit you for your first few rounds. The online component is fantastic, but I would really recommend spending a good deal of time on the campaign mode before you even try to hop online. Or better yet, start a game with some of your friends so the odds might be a little more even.

A quick note about the Game of the Year edition. It's cool looking, but if you can get the regular edition for cheaper you should probably go for it. The only difference is a voucher to download the 4 extra maps for multiplayer, and you can only use them online if every one you're playing with has downloaded them as well. Most people haven't, so I've only gotten to use them a handful of times. They look neat, but ultimately you won't get to use them much.

There's a good reason this game was given a game of the year edition. It's probably the best FPS to come out on the PS3 so far, and possibly this generation. On the 360 it even managed to dethrone Halo 3 on Live for awhile because so many people were into it. Buy it and see, odds are you will not be dissapointed.

Summary: How modern FPS SHOULD be 2008-10-19
Comment: I first played this game because a friend at work lent it to me. Reluctantly, I gave it back a week later, but with the firm conviction that I would soon own this masterpiece of modern warfare.

Taking place in a plausible near-future, Call of Duty 4 follows the exploits of two characters: Soap, a new addition to the British SAS, and Jackson, a U.S. Marine. In terms of time, the game covers 6 days of intense anti-proliferation and anti-terrorism missions. The SAS spend most of their time hunting nukes and Zakhaev, the leader of an ultra-nationalist faction of Russians battling the government for control. Meanwhile, the Marines spend their time going after Al-Asad, a militant Muslim who's working with Zakhaev to consolidate his control over an un-named Middle Eastern country. Although the events of both storylines happen simultaneously, you'll play through both separately as the game progresses, until they converge - then the Marines are working with the SAS.

The action is very fast-paced, with many enemies to shoot at. It took me until my second time through the game to realize that the game just keeps throwing more and more enemies at you until to make to the next checkpoint. The environments are completely destructible and higher-powered weapons WILL shoot through plywood, concrete, and other barriers. For that reason, cover is your friend in this game. One of the best features of this excellent title is that your squadmates are invulnerable and basically take care of themselves, which means you spend more time worrying about saving your own skin and advancing through the levels than babysitting incompetent soldiers. They'll occasionally help you out too, nailing enemy troops that may have you pinned down.

Another fun feature of the game is that, although the plot is linear and sometimes it feels like you're on rails when your squad runs off without you, you are allowed the time to explore - your squad will wait at the next checkpoint. And you should explore - there are some fun cheats that are unlocked for collecting the laptops scattered throughout the game.

The graphics are top notch and the levels are huge.

Probably the only complaint I have for this game, and it's a small one, is that you can't pick your armaments before a mission. For this reason, you may occasionally find yourself scouring the battlefield, looting corpses for your favorite equipment.

Is this game replayable? I think it depends on what kind of gamer you are. Casual gamers might enjoy playing through it a time or two. Hard core gamers will want to tackle it multiple times at every level of difficulty and find all the hidden goodies.

I don't play games online, so unfortunately I can't comment on that portion, but my friends that do tell me it's an awesome experience.

Overall, an excellent title.
