Summary: Dance Dance Revolution Supernova 2 rocks! 2008-08-14
Comment: Although it is missing some of the classic DDR tracks (as most recent DDR titles are), the game delivers more of the same fun dancing simulation that has been around since the beginning of Bemani. Some excellent new tracks have been added such as PARANOiA HADES and TRIP MACHINE PhoeniX.

Summary: potential to be extremely annoying 2008-06-06
Comment: the scope of this review centers on the hard charts (expert+) in the game. i am an experienced but not great DDR player and my favorite game is ITG.

i echo the one reviewer who pointed out how annoying the charts can be. there is an insane amount of jumps ("air") built into the charts, often as part of streams, which more often than not crossover. this is considerably difficult to step accurately on soft pads without a bar. why?
1) if you're on the tall and heavy side, crossovers in general will give you trouble (simply a speed issue).
2) quickly stepping in and out jumps can only be accomplished through messy sliding if your weight remains on your feet the whole time (no bar!).
3) quick-tapping into jumps is similarly a mess on soft pads, for exactly the same reason (weight remains on your feet).
your ankles won't like it, and more likely than not you won't like it either.
the problem is not so much that some of the songs use this to be difficult, it's that nearly all of them do. i simply hate charts like "arrabiata" or "unreal". the few good and(!) challenging ones (like "eternus", "the beginning of the end" or "seduction") simply can't compensate for the rest.

as others pointed out the master mode suffers form the fact that the difficult centers around mods and not so much around the steps. charts where arrows are only visible randomly or where a double display is supposed to be danced on a single pad, can be solved through memorizing them but there's no fun in that.

the altered grading compared to supernova is another thing i dislike since the window for an "A" is pretty small now. basically, a chart which you can get an A on, you will eventually AA.

i'm sure a more skillful player dancing with shoes/hard pad in a diagonal stance will not have much trouble with any of the non-boss charts in the game. but even if i could dance like this, i DDR for the fun exercise it's supposed to provide and this game simply fails in that regard. 2* at most.

Summary: A fun game, but nothing new. 2008-06-04
Comment: Being a fan of DDR SuperNova, I decided to purchase the sequel. SuperNova 2 is basically the same as its predesesor. It does contain some new and fun songs. However the format is very similar. You have to play your way through the game at the levels the cpu deems fit. It's annoying at first, because people who have the acquired skills are forced to do songs on easy or beginner. It does progress to more intense challenges though. I would say this game is a lot of fun b/c I love to DDR. If you are debating whether to get the first Supernova or the Second, I'd go with the first one.

On to the seller. Well, the game arrived within two weeks. The only thing I have to complain about is the fact that the game did not come in the original container with the SuperNova 2 graphics. It came in a plain black container. It did have the game's manual.

Summary: One of My Keepers 2008-03-14
Comment: Dance Dance Revolution SuperNova 2 brings a new set of songs into the Dance Dance Revolution world. As usual, depending on the songs you personally enjoy, this could be a good or a not-so-good thing.

I always find it fascinating where one person says they hate game X because the song set sucks - and then another person says they adore game X because the song set list is to awesome!! We all have very different tastes in music. It is well worth it to look at the song list for yourself and see if the songs appeal to you or not. No game will ever have 100% songs you love - but there should at least be a few that you're going to enjoy playing.

I have several DDR games and I use SuperNova 2 as my "warm up set" before I move on to the other games. So when I go downstairs to where my DDR mat and such are set up, I'll start with this SuperNova 2 game. It tends to have slower songs that get my muscles and legs warmed up. So it has Unbelievable, Got to Be Real and Take On Me (with the actual music video). These are all relatively slow but are fun to dance to (for me!) and get me moving. After I do two sets of these three, I pop out the DVD and move on to the actual high energy songs I plan on playing with for the afternoon. Then when I'm winding down I'll go back to these to end up with.

What if you hate the 3 songs I mentioned? Well luckily for you there are tons more :) So what one person likes, another person hates. It's the way these games work.

The graphics are certainly nice enough for a PS2 level system, and I've played it on everything from a little laptop to a bit high definition TV. It works fine in all situations. Right now I have my laptop set up in the basement with the mat and I can see the arrows and moves quite easily on it.

I have played with workout mode, but really it's easier for me to just hit 'sort' a few times to get them into the most-played order, play through the few songs I want to warm up with, and then move on.

I like the steps on the songs I play, but again your mileage may vary depending on the songs you tend to play with.

In general I suggest you look through the full song list and if you see things here you like - enjoy! If the songs just don't appeal to you, there are certainly enough other DDR games for you to choose from. For me this is a keeper!
