Gameplay
Designed around the standard Wii Remote/Nunchuck tethered controller configuration, EA SPORTS Active's interactive fitness program is more focused on physical activities than previous 'fitness' titles for the Wii, but still challenges you to have fun while developing a more healthy lifestyle. Separated into the three sections of workout, nutrition, lifestyle, and other activity, the user's experience begins with a pep talk from Bob Greene which quickly transitions into the beginnings of action as players set up profiles, choose a virtual personal trainer and enter baseline data like age, weight, gender, fitness goals, etc. Although the nutrition, lifestyle, and other activity sections add a holistic element facilitated by a mix of surveys and data input, building fitness through physical activity is the driving force behind EA SPORTS Active and as such the meat of the content resides in the workout section. Here players will find dozens of themed strength training and cardio workouts which can be customized as you choose and linked into circuit traning routines. These routines are introduced and monitored by your personal trainer, and allow for ongoing player motivation via real-time feedback on your workout form, an approximation of calories burned and the ability to adjust levels of exercise intensity.

Accessories
Although activity in EA SPORTS Active flows exclusively through the combination of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck controllers, it also utilizes a few additional accessories to maximize the functionality of this configuration. The first of these included with the game is the controller leg strap. By attaching this to their upper thigh and then slipping the Nunchuck controller into it, players can utilize the Nunchuck controller's motion sensing capabilities while it is connected to the Wii Remote to monitor their leg movements. This allows for cardio exercises like jogging and cardio boxing and strength training activities like squats. Also included with the game is a resistance band designed to increase the intensity of a variety of exercises such as bicep curls and shoulder presses and lifts. In addition, although not included, the Wii Balance board is compatible with many EA SPORTS Active workouts, but only as an optional added controller configuration.

Summary: Not really a game. More like an exercise video. 2010-03-21
Comment: I wanted to warn people off because this has gotten so many good reviews, but its not for everyone. Certainly not for me.

I give it 2 stars because it did give me a workout. Unfortunately, playing the game felt more like a chore than a game.
I stuck it out through the games entire "30 day challenge" to give it a fair shot. Having done so, I don't think I will play it again.

There are no high scores to strive to surpass. The music is terrible. The avatars don't move in sync with your movements.
The game feels more like an exercise video that complains at you if you happen to be holding the wiimote incorrectly.
Most of this is doing exercises like lunges and bicep curls. If you like this sort of thing, thats fine, but I find it boring.
The "sports" games are few and far between which is merciful as they are more worse than the exercises.
They are basically timing games. Swing your arms at the right moment to hit the machine launched tennisball. Wheee.

The game plays better without the wii fit board. It seems tacked on as an afterthought, and it doesn't seem to work very well with the game.

I really enjoy exercising with the Wii fit.
My latest favorite exercise game is Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3.
That game is a blast, and gives you just as much exercise.
Skip this, and buy DDR or Wii fit.

Summary: best wii workout 2010-03-20
Comment: My husband bought me every Wii workout game made and this is the best. I am in the middle of the 30 day challenge. The variety is great. My only complaint is that the exercise band does not challenge me much--so I use some resistance bands that I already had to make it harder on some moves. Sometimes I wish the nunchuck was wireless, because holding 2 things in each hand is challenging enough without worrying about the wire in the middle. Other than that--I really like this game! I will be buying the "more workouts" addition soon!

Summary: Wii Boot Camp 2010-03-16
Comment: This is a great product! I know people who have both the Wii Active and the Wii Fit, and they say the Wii Active is better. I've been using this "game" for about 2 weeks and I am still on low intensity. It really works you out! Sometimes it can be frustrating when the remotes aren't correcly sensed, but for the most part, this isn't an issue. The only thing I would change about this product, is to add more dyna bands (the big rubber band). They come in different resistance levels, so it would be nice to be able to increase the intensity of the arm excercises. Also, make sure you tie it really tight to the handles, because it will snap apart if you don't. I signed up for Amazon's credit card, so I got this product for $16.99. All around, a great deal!

Summary: Great workout!!!! 2010-03-15
Comment: Just finishing up my 30 day workout. I've lost 15 pounds and 2 waist sizes. Great workout for a beginner. You basicly get what you put into it. Can't understand how people are having problems with it(they must not be that motivated!)Overall a great product, but you need to replace the flimsy resistence band with a much stronger one.

Summary: EA Sports Active for Wii 2010-03-15
Comment: I read many reviews before purchasing this one and taking into account the main complaints was the the leg strap falling. I decided to go for it because I wanted something more than what the wii fit offered. I wore sweats for my first two workouts and I could sympathize with others having the leg strap fall. Very annoying! So I went shopping and bought a pair of Fila nylon leg hugging capris that didn't have any bulk like my sweats had. Boy did that make a big difference and I was able to take advantage of the exercise program. I have hurt shoulder so I couldn't do many of the band exercises for the arms so I created my own workouts that don't involve the band or I do them without the band. I love this and I also bought the More EA Sports Active. I love the step aerobics on the second one. I love the different levels. Two Thumbs UP! One more thing. I haven't exercised for a year and this was really easy to fit into my schedule and I look forward to my workouts/.
