In Colonial England, Jack Keane takes on a job which will cause him a great deal of trouble and reveals the secrets of his mysterious past. A lack of money leads him to accept a charter to take a British secret agent to mysterious "Tooth Island". His ship shatters on the island's cliffs and the secret agent quickly gets eaten by a monster in the jungle. Jack soon meets the strange Doctor T, ruler of "Tooth Island", who is cultivating man-eating plants and has his own dastardly plans for the British Empire. But why does he seem to know Jack, who can't remember ever having been on Tooth Island? What are Doctor T's plans? And what does he know about Jack's past? And then there's the young and naive Amanda, who is employed by Doctor T. Part of her task is to track Jack down and take him prisoner. Before long, she begins to wonder if she is really on the right side, or if she shouldn't join her opponent, the charming Captain Jack, instead. A hair-raising hunt across the length and breadth of the dangerous island finally airs the mystery surrounding Jack's past and leads to a spectacular showdown with a dark and deadly enemy and his nefarious henchmen.

Summary: Technally good, but boring 2008-11-14
Comment: When first released, some reviewers compared this game to the old LucasArts Monkey Island series. Unfortunately it is not even close. Technically, the game was fine. The interfaces worked pretty well for the most part. The graphics were good, and the puzzles were reasonable. However, good adventure games not only have good puzzles, but they also bring a story and characters that are interesting. For example, the old Monkey Island games had hilarious dialogue and great characters, in addition to the interesting puzzles. This one feels flat. And there is lots of dialogue which I feel like I have to wade through just to get it over with. I didn't bother to finish the game.

Summary: An interesting point & click game 2008-08-17
Comment: Jack Keane is a point & click video game developed by the same company as Ankh. Some people would say that Jack Keane feels like a Monkey Island but I found Jack Keane more serious than Monkey Island (at least Monkey Island 3 and 4). The screenplay of Jack Keane is good, humor is well present in dialogs (especially in the 3 first chapters), voices of the characters are pleasant, graphisms are correct, and the possibility to move two characters (Jack and Amanda) is also a good point. Moreover, unlike a number of other video games, this one works for the minimum configuration specified on the box although loading times may be long enough (several minutes). The game is divided into 13 chapters some of which are much longer than others (why not!), and bonus features may be unlocked during the game (a bit weird for an adventure game but why not!). The drawbacks of this game are the motions of the characters (for instance, when they go down stairs), the camera position that is disturbing (zoom on Jack whereas you need to click in front of him to make him walk), and the inventory that is hard to see (according to me, the conceptors tried to make it transparent not to hide some parts of the decor but it's too transparent for my poor eyes !). Except that, I have experienced two bugs during the game but I was able to finish it without any problem. In brief, a good video game for adventurers like you and me !

Summary: Fun Game 2008-08-14
Comment: This game was really a lot of fun. To me the only downside was the length of some of the conversations and the solutions to some of the puzzles. Great for teens and us older adults.

Summary: jack keane rules 2008-06-14
Comment: from the guys that made ankh...i must say ....very impressed..this game far surpassed ankh and had me in adventure heaven...point and click using only mouse..very nice and colorful graphics..great control...double click run..awesome puzzles..good story..it lacked a little in the laughter deptartment but i must say i was playing non stop..the puzzles are easy to medium mostly..you have the occasional inventory puzzle which is great..there isnt a whole lot of tough pixel hunting that can upset people, i believe its just right, you need some pixel hunts.the game seems very long, considering how many puzzles i figured out..
the dialoge was done like monkey island which i believe was perfect..no super long annoying conversations..if you dont answer questions correctly you might not recieve an item..which makes you restart the conversation..trial and error..
1 4 out of 5 stars for the puzzles
2 4 out of 5 for control
3 4 out of 5 for story
4 4 out of 5 for graphics
5 4 out of 5 for the fact i couldnt stop playing or thinking about it
any adventurer would love this game
