Summary: JO - cheap fun 2008-02-15
Comment: I've played online games for 10 years now and let me tell you I get tired of those monthly fees. Joint Ops is a fun war game with NO monthly fee. You can play with others, host your own battle or whatever you feel like doing. It's simple, yet can be exciting and fun. It's not be greatest game but it's a fun way to pass the time for no fees.

Summary: Fun Game 2007-12-15
Comment: This was my first FPS game and it's a lot of fun. Only wish that Novalogic would come out with a new version.

Summary: My old stand-by 2007-12-07
Comment: Joint Ops: Combined Arms To all the military first-person gamers out there, this one is my old standby. Its predecessors, also from Novalogic were Delta Force and Delta Force Land Warrior. There were a few others in the series, but between these 3, I've been on a permanent fragfest since the 90s. If you're stuck on BFII, give this one a try some time. There's never a monthly charge, and they keep the servers going for years. You will definitely get your money's worth. The graphics have the "feel" of reality provided you stick to your mouse and keyboard. And talk about wide open! You can point yourself in a direction and just keep on running until the scenario ends either 45 minutes or 2 hours later, not that you, or anyone would actually want to. But the map would continue to make sense. There wouldn't be anyone that far out there to fight, but hey.. I like my games wide-open to increase the feel of reality. This one does it to perfection. Day, night, and weather actually matter as well. So if you're "bad" enough, come try to hunt me :) GWBCurseOnUSA

Summary: Excellent multi-player game/ Excellent price. 2007-11-04
Comment: Joint Ops: Combined Arms
Well worth the price. I purchased three copies for my home network for myself and my friends to play. We have spent uncountable hours playing this game. It runs great on almost every system available. Well worth the purchase if you are into multi player military fighting games. It also has a good single player campaign. Put simply...Buy This Game!

Customer Rating: 5 Star
Summary: One of the best FPS ever created. 2007-06-12
Comment: Joint Operations: Combined Arms is Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising combined with the expansion pack Joint Operations: Escalation. If you enjoy FPS games, then Joint Operations: Combined Arms is a must have. Even though this game was originally released in 2005, it is still better than FPS games that came after, like Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 2. The graphics may not be quite as nice as those other games, but it is far more playable, with a faster frame-rate, than those other games. Unlike most other on-line games these days, NovaLogic does not charge a monthly fee. There are several NovaLogic servers to choose from, or any player can create their own. The best part of the game, in my opinion, is the open-ended maps. As with all the prior NovaLogic games, the maps have no borders. If you want to drive, fly, or run miles out of your way, you can. The map terrain simply repeats every 512 meters.

The game includes 12 different Co-Operative scenarios, where players work as a team to accomplish several objectives. The AI for the enemy on the Co-Op maps is mediocre. The enemy isn't very bright, as they have a tendency to run towards you when you shoot at them instead of seeking cover. There are also Team Death Match scenarios that pit one team against another. There is also Team King of the Hill scenarios where the team that stays in the scoring zone the longest, wins. Finally, there are Advance and Secure scenarios where two opposing teams hold various positions while advancing against the enemy to take their positions away.

A player can choose various weapon and equipment load-outs at the beginning of each scenario, or they can change during the scenario at any Armory. These includes: Riflemen, Engineers, Heavy Gunners, Snipers, and Medics. A typical Riflemen might be equipped with an M4/203 (which includes a 2x scope) with 300 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and six 40mm grenades, three flash-bang grenades, three smoke grenades, three fragmentation grenades, a Beretta 92F side-arm, body armor, and of course the ever present knife. There are over 40 different weapon types from the M82 0.50 caliber sniper rifle, to the Javelin (anti-tank missile launcher).

The various types of vehicles include ATVs, Dune Buggies, Hummers, motorcycles, BTRs, M-1A2 Abrams and T-80 tanks, Zodiacs, PT boats, hovercraft, plus the Chinook, Blackhawk and Little Bird helicopters. There are three different types of Little Bird helicopters; one with benches on the outside for carrying people, one with dual rocket pods, and another with dual mini-chain guns. The Blackhawk helicopter is also armed with dual mini-chain guns. The PT boats are armed with two Browning M2 0.50 caliber machine guns and at least one MK-19 40mm automatic grenade launcher. While you won't find any tanks, hovercraft, or the Chinook helicopter in any of the NovaLogic Co-Operative scenarios, you will find them in many of the Advance and Secure scenarios or those scenarios created by other players.

Joint Operations: Combined Arms will allow up to 150 players to join on-line (using NovaLogic's servers, 64 maximum via LAN), which makes for an action packed game and provides a target rich environment. The Co-Op scenarios Nova Logic provides are well thought out and balanced to make each one challenging, but not to the point of frustration. The keyboard and mouse controls are intuitive and easy to use, and can be changed to suit your playing style. The graphics are good and you don't need a super-charged PC to run the game in any resolution effectively.

There is also a third-party map editor and scenario builder that allow you to create your own maps and play them on-line. This is something I always look for in a game because it extends the playable life of the game. The game also does not require the CD to be in the PC in order to play the game, which I consider to be another nice feature.
