Summary: Best console available 2008-11-18
Comment: Well, it is a solid console and makes almost no sound at all while using it. It has a great price considering how expensive blu-ray players are right now and the ps3 works perfectly as one. The only negative thing that i can find about this ps3 is that it does not have backward compatability, but if you don't plan on playing ps2 games this is the perfect console for you.

Summary: Thank you Sony 2008-11-16
Comment: If you want a Blu-Ray - this is still the unit to buy. I tried the Samsung 2550 - but took it back after watching only half a movie.

This unit lives up to expectations from easy set up - to online upgrades to BD Live (a really cool feature you've got to try out) to load times.

Not sure about the future of Blu-Ray -- but this unit is a good bet for now.

Don't settle for less.

Summary: PS3 vs Xbox 360 2008-11-15
Comment: I have owned an Xbox 360 Xbox 360 Elite System Console Includes 120GB Hard Drive for over a year and a PS3 Playstation 3 80GB for several months. This review is a short comparison. I prefer playing games on either console over my PC.

Xbox 360
Pros:
- more games available
- prefer the controller (not a major difference)
Cons:
- unable to play Blu-ray movies
- concerned about red ring of death
- produces so much heat that I cannot use it in summer (it is like a space-heater)
- the loud fan is annoying
- there is a fee for multi-player

PS3
Pros:
- plays Blu-ray HD movies
- produces much less heat
- quiet
- free multi-player
Cons:
- not as many games available yet
- prefer the Xbox controller

I generally prefer the PS3 by a wide margin. Unfortunately, at this time, one almost needs both to play the best games.

My suggestion to Microsoft is to include a Blu-ray player, fix the red ring of death, improve the hardware so that it uses less energy & is quiet, and make multi-player free.

My suggestion to Sony is to improve the design of the controller and make more games available.

Customer Rating: 5 Star
Summary: An all around entertainment device 2008-11-14
Comment: I have owned a PS3 for about 10 months now and have gotten every cent's worth from it. It's the keystone to my entertainment center now. Here are its highlights:

1. I use free TVersity media server running on my network and the PS3 will stream my movies, music, and images from any computer.
2. I can watch DivX movies in the PS3 and it will upscale the picture just as well as my Oppo DVD player.
3. It's a great Blu-Ray player and has the ability to update its version because Sony releases patches often. Also, if you have a Logitech Harmony remote: You can buy a Nyko Remote and use the USB dongle with the Harmony to control the PS3. Unfortunately, you just can't power the PS3 on.
4. Of course the games are great. The PS3 is relatively new, so once third party developers figure out how to fully utilize the hardware, then even better games will come out.

There is a drawback to my PS3. I have the 40GB version and am quickly running out of space. Grand Theft Auto 4 takes 3GB+, Metal Gear takes 4GB+, Rock Band takes 1GB+(with downloaded songs). I heard you can swap the hard drive yourself, but don't feel like investing an extra $60 until necessary. But I guess I should have considered that when deciding on the 40GB version over the 80GB version.

Other than that, this is a great device for entertainment. Hopefully, retailers will further drop the price or add incentive bundles for the holidays so this system is more attractive for buyers. A tough thing to ask for from a system that is already in the red, but it's gotta compete with the Wii and Xbox somehow.

Summary: It's OKAY for now... 2008-11-13
Comment: I just got this today... I was impressed by the graphics on this monster. However, I was disappointed when the game started to lag. You heard me, it LAGGED! A Sony system an old veteran. Well, what do you expect? I was also disappointed at the PS3 library... come on SONY. I wish they had something like Halo or something. I'm over myself aren't I? lol well, PS3 80GIG is nonetheless great.

Details:

Graphics: 10/10
Audio: 10/10
Game library: 6/10
Dualshock 3 controller battery life: 6/10
Fun play: 8/10
