Resistance 2 takes up right where the Resistance: Fall of Man left off. Hale is kidnapped by a black ops group in London and forced to Iceland for research testing. The full scope of what happens in Iceland is a mystery, but the game reveals that as Hale wrestles with the insidious Chimera war machine, he must also battle the virus raging inside his body that threatens to transform him into the very creature he fights against.

The Return of the Chimera
The Chimera are the main enemies of the Resistance franchise. For those new to the story, it is believed that the Chimera are of extraterrestrial origin. Yet, it is known that their army expands by infecting humans with a virus that transforms humans into Chimera while inside a cocoon. These creatures are much stronger than humans, and usually have multiple yellow eyes. They have remarkable healing abilities and thrive in very cold temperatures, which has led them to alter the Earth's climate to a much lower temperature that better suits their habitat requirements.

Resistance 2 introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. A few new characters include the Chameleon, a creature that can cloak itself completely and kill a player in one, destructive blow, and the Grim which are a terrifying species that attack in hordes.

The Battle Moves to the United States
After the brief opening scenes in London and then Iceland, game play jumps ahead two years and across the globe to San Francisco. Giant, mile-long motherships slowly cruise through the skies demolishing the city with fiery beams. Burned and mangled, it appears that there will be little to no survivors. As the battle continues across the United States you're sure to encounter many new, deranged, and much more powerful enemies.

In Chicago, you'll be joined by a squad of soldiers all carrying different weapons. To survive and move through the level, you'll need to work together moving from cover to cover, setting up your squad in a smart and defensive manner. These are just a few examples of the challenging levels you'll encounter as you battle your way across the country to save mankind. And if you're hoping for new weapons, Resistance 2 won't leave you disappointed. The US-based campaign is loaded with tons of new weapons to enhance the overall game play and first-person shooter experience.

Online game play Goes BIG
Powered by Insomniac Games' third-generation PlayStation 3 technology, Resistance 2 delivers several console gaming breakthroughs. Most impressive are the stand-alone, class-based, online co-operative campaign mode that can accommodate up to eight players, and the mind-blowing, 60-player, squad-based online competitive multiplayer battle fest. This unprecedented 60-player option could revolutionize online multiplayer game play, and is sure to provide countless hours of action-packed fun.

Collector's Edition is Loaded with Extras
Resistance 2 Collector's Edition is loaded with extras that are sure to impress even the most die-hard fans. This special collector's edition comes with an exclusive 5.5-inch Chimera Hybrid action figure that's packing a Bullseye weapon. The package also includes a double-sided Resistance art book that covers a war-torn America from two unique perspectives, and a bonus DVD that includes exclusive commentary, in-game HVAP Wraith multiplayer skin, a Behind the Scenes video, and lots more.

Summary: A Must Have! 2008-11-07
Comment: This is a must have for any PS3 owner or anyone who is considering to buy a PS3. It has improved a lot and I just love it. It's more challenging as Insomniac focused on scale, so you'll see larger enemies and more enemies on the screen. The Collector's Edition is worth the money. It comes with a bonus BD disc and these discs cost around 15 bucks, a book, action figure and a multiplayer weapon. If you add all these up... it is well over 80 already. If you think it's too expensive, you can choose the Bill Me Later option to save 10 bucks. It is just 10 dollars more if you purchase the Collector's with Bill me Later.

Customer Rating: 3 Star
Summary: Awesome game, pathetic Collector's Edition 2008-11-05
Comment: First, I rate the single player game a 5 out of 5, it is awesome. I played the first one countless times, this one is as good (though not as long) with much better looking visuals.

I rate the multiplayer a 5 out of 5. Fun, fast, hectic, and wow, soo many people online! This is the stuff of legend folks.

If your wondering, should I buy resistance 2, the answer is a resounding yes. I'm not sure I would go as far as saying its better than metal gear or GTA 4, but it is a very good game, highly enjoyable, and will get more play time from me than GTA 4 and Metal Gear (with the highly enjoyable campaign crossed with the multiplayer).

Now, on to the Collectors Edition.

I love Collectors Editions. I enjoy the making of documentaries, and most of all I enjoy the art work, the ability to see the concept work of the characters, the weapons, creatures, vehicles, is something I crave with a passion. I also enjoy seeing concepts of the environments, for me, this is very much so worth the extra 10$ (or 20$ in the case). Making of dvds are fantastic too (though this is a blu-ray which is much much preferred) I love hearing how they came up with this, problems they over came, blah blah.

Figurines can be good if they are of high quality (such as those made my McFarlane Toys).

However, for this package, I give it a 3 out of 5.

The game is a very enjoyable game, I cannot recommend it enough. It is money well spent. Sadly I cannot say so about this "Edition" of the game.

Here is what you get.

You get a crappy figure (I say crappy because it is similar to the kind of toy you would get for 4-6 dollars at walmart for a kid, there is little to no detail, no rich texture, and the thing looks washed out. I'm not so happy with it, and considering that is likely the reason for the 10 extra dollars (over 20) I feel very upset about it. They could of gone with McFarlane, and had a much nicer toy that I would actually want to show off, now I got this thing hidden in a dark area of my closet, in hopes no-one will ever see something so bland.

The artbook is horrible. This amazing double sided book is 16 pages in length, which is about 30 pages of art (2 separate covers, thus NOT 32 pages). I say horrible because there are no character models, no previz pictures, all you get is a few storyboard pictures.

Let me be fair, Here is the contents of the artbook:

page 1 shows soldiers running attacking an enemy.
same for page 2 and 3

Dont get me wrong, they are nicely drawn, but this is all.

Then you get a page of text, with 4 perspective drawings of some guns, nice, but not what I expected.
2 are outlines, and 2 are rendered

Then you get some environment shots of Chimera Technology
1 page showing 4 renders of the Chimera (I wanted so much more!)
1 page of the characters (only show 3/4 views of their faces, big deal)
No armor, no outfits, no full body views.

Then you need to flip the book over and look at it from "the other side"
you get 8 spreads (basically 2 pages devoted to a drawing) of a worn torn America. This is nice, and is the best part of the book.

However, if you happened to of purchased the Fallout 3 Collectors edition (which included a 100 page artbook showing all the aliens, in many views, as well as several pages dedicated to weapons) you will quickly see how "throw a away" this book is. it is nicely pressed, most all artbooks that come with games are hardcover, so this is no big deal here.

Basically, it all boils down to "lackluster).

The reason I did not give this a 1 is because the game is fantastic, an easy 5.

The artbook would get a 1 out of 5. I hope the makers of this game, pickup fallout 3, and learn how to make an artbook next time. With a game such as Resistance 2, with such imaginative enemies, I would of enjoyed seeing them in the book, to be able to look back and check out the HUGE boss's or even the enemy soldiers. To see more drawings of the guns, anything, what we have here sucks. To me, it is worth no more than 3-5 dollars. Its something I would expect as a pre-order bonus, not something I had to pay for.

The figure would get a 1 out of 5.
The figure is so devoid of detail, its pathetic. The gun looks so cheesy, its not even funny. It's as though it was cast from a PlayStation 1 model.

I really wanted to enjoy this, and have this guy sitting on my desk. It is such a cool design, however this figure does not do the character design justice. (please let McFarlane make a line of toys based off this game, as I would graciously buy them, and we can forget this whole thing ever happened)

The Making of Blu-Ray gets a 4 out of 5.

Sadly it does not come in its own case, it is in a cardboard sleeve. But you get a few features.

1 - America Forever Lost
This is broke up into several segments (though you can play all)

- 1 The Online Experience (6 minutes)
- 2 Scale and Technology (4)
- 3 The Resistance Universe (5)
- 4 Cinematics & Intersense (6)
2 - Shattered History (2 minutes)
3 - Multiplayer Walkthrough (this is 13 minutes in length and helps answer questions you may have about online multiplayer)

What is XP
What is a Berserk
how do you play skirmish
what is core control
whats different about co-op in r2
then the classes (medic, special ops, soldier)
and a play all button

So combined, about 40 minutes of material

Then you get
The Gathering Storm (sneak peek at the novel)
Comic Book (issue 0 of the comic) (thanks to it being on blu-ray it is very watchable, and worth looking at, I do recommend it)

Do not watch the video until you beat the game, as it does contain spoilers (and it tells you so)

The blu-ray was interesting for me, and I felt worth some money.

The next "bonus" is you get a different cover. I much prefer this cover, but it really doesn't matter. If I had to rate it, I would easily give it a 5 over the regular one, this and the blu-ray would be an easy sell if the game was 70. I could forgive the cheap figure, and lackluster artbook, but since it costs 80, its not so easy to forgive.

You also get a skin to use in the game, it is included on a piece of paper. (with a code to redeem)

This is why I give this version of the game a 3. I think it is over priced, and not worth the extra cash. I applaud Sony for trying to cash in on the Collectors Edition market. I would of easily bought a collectors version for R1, as it is one of my favorite games. This however, is not worth it to me.

The game is amazing, if this is all you care about, buy the regular version. If you enjoy artbooks, you will not like this one. If you thought the figure looked cool, it does not (in real life). The case cover is very cool, and the game is nothing short of amazing.

I highly recommend the game, these are just my opinions, but they are honest. Buy the game, buy this version at your own risk. If 20 dollars is nothing to you, pick it up. While I think the Fallout 3 game collectors edition was money well spent (the artbook alone was worth it for me, never mind the dvd, bobble head (which I do display), and lunchbox (which is well designed, and is displayed next to my games), this edition (resistance 2) does not feel like money well spent.

If I were to recommend this over the regular version (which I do not), I would say, Pick up the collectors version, you get a better cover, and a blu-ray with some multiplayer tips, and behind the scenes look at the game. You also get a cheap figure and a artbook.

Since I love the game so much, I will not be selling it or returning it but for those who are strapped for cash, get the plain version, you are missing nothing.

I also must congratulate Amazon, and they very fast and prompt service and shipping. I can only hope they start doing more release date guarantee games.

And as a note, I am not comparing Resistance 2 the game, to Fallout 3 the game (though they do have similar themes, and maybe even advertising schemes) They are both wonderful games, Resistance 2 is a very fun FPS, Fallout 3 is a wonderful RPG, I am only comparing the 80 dollar collectors edition between both. I do not feel cheated on the F3 CE, I do on the R2. 70 is a much better price. If the artbook would of been bigger, I would of been able to overlook the cheap figure. If the figure would of been better, I could of overlooked the weak artbook. But neither is the case.

Customer Rating: 5 Star
Summary: Better than Cod4 and Probaly COD5 2008-11-04
Comment: First off, this game is great. My favorite game on PS3. THe online is intense with 60 players and 8 player online coop is epic. The story is fantastic and long. Two stories in fact so it is a huge game. I really dont know how they did this but it's legendary. I have COD4 and it's great but this surpasses it by far and there is no way Treyarch can make COD5 better than this. This is a must have for any PS3 owner.

In the first gamne there were glitches and lagging and alota bad stuff. Well in the sequel its totally revised no lagging watsoever. But, in storymode there are a few glitches. But, there small and I don't really notice them. Remember the weapon wheel in the first game. Now you can only hold 2 weapons which is much more fun and real. This personnaly is my fav game, better than MGS4 and GTA 4 and COD4. If u want a fun action shooter game. This is for u.
