Summary: Only thing I didn't like-well wait 2 things 2008-10-04
Comment: So in the new SingStar for PS3 the format is neat and crisp, except for the duet singing. In the PS2 format, the words are at the bottom, but in the PS3 version, the blue is at the top and the red is at the bottom. I think maybe bc I was so used to doing the format for the PS2 it trips me up in the new version. Either way, I don't like it. I hope(which probably won't happen) that in Vol 2 they change it back to the bottom of the screen but we will see. It also hides more of video view. Sigh.
The 2nd thing is the SingStar Store. Absolutely horrible. My husband and I went to the store and bought about 8 songs out of their maybe 50 song list. It was a horrible list of obscure songs that no one ever heard of. A lot of message boards have said this but I don't understand why they can't get the licenses when the UK versions have better selections. Either way, they need to get on that bc seriously I buy EVERY SingStar (i dont know about country tho) So they have a big market that they could tap. Otherwise the SingStar series is great!

Summary: So Much Potential, But Currently a Letdown 2008-09-28
Comment: My family and I have been fans of the SingStar series on the PS2, so we were looking forward to SingStar PS3 and pre-ordered it without hesitation. With high-definition graphics, what should be a great setlist on-disc, plus the SingStore should make for endless hours of entertainment.
Well, the graphics are decent, but the music videos are still in standard definition. The on-disc setlist is pretty mediocre in my opinion, especially compared to the PS2 releases, and the SingStore has been a disappointment as far as selection is concerned.
The other on-line feature is like YouTube for SingStar. It's nice, but it doesn't make up for the shortcomings. In fact, it shows how outside the US, players have a better SingStore song selection!
Most recently, a single high definition music video appeared on the SingStore, which may be a (late) sign of things to come. The music selection still hasn't improved though; even the recently released SingStar Pop Vol. 2 (PS2) has a great on-disc setlist.
What gives Sony? Don't you want people to upgrade from the PS2 to PS3?
In the meantime, it's back to Rock Band 2, and eventually Guitar Hero: World Tour and Lips.

Summary: DRM Warning! 2008-09-21
Comment: ANY songs you download with this game will be tied to the machine you downloaded them to. They cannot be redownloaded or repurchased on any other machine even with the master account you used to purchased them. This is a SERIOUS problem for anyone who makes a significant investment into additional songs, especially if you ever have to replace your PS3.
There are multiple postings in the PSN newsgroups about this problem--wish I knew about it before making my purchase.
The game is tons of fun, but until the copy protection is fixed consider investing elsewhere if there is an alternative.

Summary: Great singing game, but poor Singstore selection 2008-09-19
Comment: If you like singing, this is probably the best product you can get on the PS3--it has the real songs and videos, the scoring system is relatively good, and it's fun. As a party game it's great too--but held back by the song selection.
While the game is great, the Singstore is far from impressive, especially when it comes to North American artists. Sony has been lethargic with regard to adding songs from the back catalog (there are a number of more popular songs in the PS3 discs), and the selection is much smaller than that of other regions like the UK.
What makes this more frustrating is that Sony, already a few years in the PS3's life, is still making PS2 discs with new content, while the PS3 version stays stagnant, which is where it suffers as a party game--since a great of the songs are unknown (like Natalia, who has 5 songs)--a lot of people don't know the words, which makes the game less fun, especially with things like pass the mic. To make the game work at a party you need artists and songs that are more ubiquitous like Madonna or Michael Jackson, which you can get on the PS2 discs.
If the PS2 discs didn't have more popular songs I'd give this game 5 stars, but the best Sony will do is a disc-swap, where you're stuck with songs you won't want, which is the opposite of the a-la-carte selection we are getting used to. Sony said they would update the store every two weeks, and, aside from the poor update selection (in the US), they often miss updates. If I didn't already own the game, I wouldn't bother buying it, as the Singstore is horrid, which is unfortunate because for the songs I do like, it's a great game.
The other issue people seem to have is the wireless mic problem; while it would be nice I don't really play enough for this to be that big a deal.

Summary: Great Party Game! 2008-07-27
Comment: There's already several reviews that go over the game features, so I will just say that this is a great party game. The things that would have made me give it 5 stars instead of 4 would be if the game had: Wireless microphones, the ability to use my own music library, and the ability to purchase a song I like that someone else is singing to without having to go and search for it at the Singstore.
