Product Description

While Star Trek: Invasion never quite reaches the lofty heights of the Colony Wars games, it's still worth a look even if you're not a green-blooded trekker.

Set in the time line of the Next Generation TV and film series, Invasion has you cast in the role of a fighter pilot destined for a big part in the upcoming war against the Earth-bound Borg. The Borg is not the only Trek race to show up in here; the Cardassians, Klingons, and Bajorans are all along, too. Speaking of the Trek gang, actors Michael Dorn as Worf and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard contribute good voice acting to an all-around solid production.

The visuals in Invasion are uniformly sharp and show an attention to detail that almost makes the old PlayStation beg for mercy. The planets, the ships, the explosions (especially the explosions!) are topnotch. The music, however, is painfully repetitive. Disturbingly, the controls in Invasion are way too sensitive for all but the most die-hard space jockeys. The Valkyrie space fighters often make too wide a turn, resulting in constant misfires and untimely deaths.

Perhaps because it is set in the more politically correct universe of Star Trek, Invasion does lack the Colony Wars games' level of intense, gritty combat, and its story isn't nearly as engaging. Yet, for a laser blast-filled journey into the final frontier, it's still a fun ride. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Lovely graphics push the PlayStation to its limits
  • Excellent voice acting all around
  • Easy to get into
Cons:
  • Awkward controls
  • Light story line doesn't compete with standout games in this genre
  • Too few missions

Summary: Star Trek Invasion? 2007-11-27
Comment: Hard to tell it's Star Trek. Kept my 6yo boy entertained for a few hours, but was too frustrating to really enjoy, and lame overall. Bleah. If you want to do Star Trek ship fighting, get Star Fleet Command!

Summary: Do NOT buy this game if you like star trek 2007-03-26
Comment: When i first saw this game i thought "since i only have a PS1 this would be good "
but when i played it. it was just a shooter game nothing like the original star trek or star trek next generation or any of the others i mean none of there ships were in any of the other shows at all. Its just a star wars game ina a star trek disguise. I'v got nothing wrong with star wars but when you want a star trek game you dont want star wars.
The other probablm is that i cant get past mission 5 i'v played over 9 hours trying to beat it! I looked up cheats and their is only one: beat all levels and all wepons and some other stuff. I'm really disapointed. A better game is star trek encounters for PS2!!

Summary: Fun Game 2005-09-11
Comment: I hate to say this, but this game was even more fun than the Shattered Universe game for PS2. I am totally addicted to it. This game is also therapy, because when I'm frustrated and upset, I play this game and I vent it all on the Romulans or the Borg and I feel 100% better afterwards.

Summary: Excellent Star Trek Game! 2003-11-14
Comment: They usually make Star Trek games for computers, I'm glad they made this one for PS1. It's a great fighter pilot type game. It's also cool how they included the voices of Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn!

Summary: Cool Star Trek Game for the Playstation. 2003-07-26
Comment: When a Federation science vessel, the U.S.S. Discovery, builds a probe in Klingon Space, it is then destroyed by a large Borg fleet. The U.S.S. Discovery then sends the telemetry from the probe before it was destroyed to Starfleet Command. When Starfleet realizes that the Borg is coming, they send Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E, to investigate. Also aboard is Lieutenant Commander Worf of station Deep Space Nine, where Picard gives him a carrier starship, the U.S.S. Typhon, to compensate with the upcoming Borg invasion. He then recruits twenty ensigns from the U.S.S. Enterprise. You will soon realize that the Borg are not here to fight the Federation, but it is even more. Captain Brennan of the U.S.S. Sentinel NCC-1703-B has been defying Starfleet orders and is becoming allies with some gross-looking aliens. The game takes place two years after Star Trek: Insurrection, and has two aliens, one which the Klingons know, the Hur'q, they aren't mentioned until the U.S.S. Discovery is attacked by them and leaves them adrift in the Scorpion Nebula. And also a sort of insect-like creature, the Kam'Jahtae is thrown into the story in the beginning of the game's fourth mission. Voice talents of Patrick Stewart as the U.S.S. Enterprise-E's captain, Jean-Luc Picard, and Michael Dorn from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Worf are in it. Survive 30+ missions via big cheat, that unlocks all weapons, missions and the option you can't die.
