Sprint Service Options
Supporting the EV-DO Rev. A high-speed data standard, Sprint's Mobile Broadband Network provides blazing fast speeds on the nation's largest mobile broadband network (based on covered square miles), covering more than 15,000 cities and 1,400 airports. With EV-DO Rev. A, peak download data rates increase to 3.1 Mbps and peak upload data rates increase to 1.8 Mbps; average download speeds improve to 600 kbps to 1.4 mbps and average uplink speeds increase to 350 to 500 kbps.

The Sprint Music Store enables you to buy, download, and then jam out wherever you are with new songs or old favorites. Phone Features
Named "Best in Show" in the third annual Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Award competition in April at CTIA Wireless 2008, the innovative Samsung Instinct speeds up the user experience like no other touchscreen phone and brings your most-used applications and contacts within a single finger tap. With the Instinct, you don't have to listen to voicemail anymore. Just one quick glance at the Visual Voicemail display and you'll know who called and when--and even delete messages without having to listen to them first. The device also offers a Speech to Action button providing many functions using speech activation for calling, texting, picture messaging, traffic, movie, sports, news, weather and search.

It has a high-tech look with large, vibrant touchscreen a 240 x 432-pixel resolution and support for 262K colors for excellent depth. And whether you use your finger or a stylus, the Instinct responds to every touch with a slight vibration. This localized tactile feedback, called haptics, transforms the virtual QWERTY keypad and other screen interactions into a sensory experience.

This sleek, stylish device offers three dedicated keys on the lower portion of the device to make operation of the device very straightforward and easy to navigate--phone, back and home. The phone key always takes you back to essential voice calling and features including speed dial, visual voicemail, contacts and the dial pad. The back key is a consistent way to take a step back in the operation. The home key provides quick access to the four menus of functionality included in the user interface:

With Live Search, you can use that GPS technology to search for the nearest gas station by location, price or even grade of gasoline.

  • Favorites provides one-touch access to the things you do most, making customization and personalization extremely simple. Web sites, TV channels, text messaging friends and much more can be saved in the Favorites menu so the items used most are always at the user's fingertips.
  • Main includes applications such as Messaging, Voicemail, GPS Navigation and more.
  • Fun takes you to Music, TV, photos, games and more.
  • Web provides a fast, real Internet experience and all things Web-related, including weather and news.
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, audio/video remote control, and printing. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. When connected to a Bluetooth device, caller information for incoming calls will be spoken through the Bluetooth device. Decide to answer the call without ever looking at your phone.

The 2-megapixel camera can capture images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels for prints up to 8 x 10 inches. It features a 2x digital zoom, "fuzzy picture" warning that lets you know if you're about to take a bad picture, and easy viewing of photos by simply swiping your finger across the screen to move from one photo to the next. It also includes a video camcorder function that lets you record video clips up to 2 MB (approximately 6 minutes) for sending via messaging or for as long as you have space on an inserted MicroSD memory card for saving.

The music player is compatible with MP3, WMA, AAC/AAC+, and KOZ digital audio formats, and it will play in the background even while sending text messages, browsing the Web, or playing a downloaded game. This phone is also compatible with 72-chord polyphonic ringtones, and it includes a vibrate silent mode.

The phone is compatible with text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messaging, as well as POP3 personal email accounts. Summary: Samung sucks and so does Sprint Customer service 2009-11-09
Comment: I have had 2 of these Instinct phones. My only problem with them as that when I'm on a call and get 2 text messages, I hear that stupid (2 missed events) and the phone call is automatically dropped. Most of the time I can click dismiss or read the text while on the phone, but occasionally I get 2 text messages so close together that I don't have the time to click dismiss or read, and so my phone call is disconnected. Sprint is not very helpful at all about replacing the phone a 2nd time now. I honestly don't want another one. I want them to give me a different phone that doesn't drop calls when you get a text message. Now they are telling me I have to go to a corporate store in Silver Spring, MD for this since they don't have any corporate stores in Washington, DC. The worst company on earth for customer service.

Summary: More than just a phone 2009-10-24
Comment: As a phone, the Instinct performs very well. Conversations are crisp even with one bar. Very rarely did I get a feedback echo or did the call drop. The battery fully charged would allow me to talk for over 3.5 hours. As far as the other features, I still wonder why the Instinct is NOT considered a smart phone. Despite Sprint's push of the Pre and the introduction of the watered-down Instinct s30, I elected to keep this phone and not 'upgrade'. The GPS is amazing and it is 'voice-activated', as in you talk to the phone and ask for pizza and it lists all pizza joints in the area, phone numbers and directions. You can easily access your email accounts, download and manage media and then there's visual voice mail, you pick and choose in which order you listen to your voice mails. Web browsing was surprisingly quick and mobile TV was tolerable. There is also mobile update which periodically backs up all your contacts. All this for a very reasonable price ($99.99 at the time). The Instinct does have its drawbacks, the biggest being 'multi-threading'. If the phone is accessing your email, while receiving a text, while you are downloading music, it will freeze. It does not do it a lot, but it does it enough for it to be annoying. The GPS feature drains the battery very quickly and any glare on the screen renders its contents practically invisible. Other than that, with a pouch, stylus and extra battery, it more than makes up for any flaws it has. The Instinct is a great phone considering its price and features. It is my hope that the Instinct HD (s50) is a 'true' upgrade to this phone and continues to carry the many features enjoyed.

Summary: Huge Dissappointment 2009-10-13
Comment: My issues with this phone are as follows: poor battery life, two broken car chargers, very very poor touch screen (nearly impossible to text, web browse and general phone use), phone freezing up, screen going black and phone having to be reset, missed calls automatically deleted after checking one, phone lock doesn't work (pocketbook calls are made daily), poor volume and I could really go on and on. I can agree with most of cons in the reviews for this phone because I've experienced them. There are some pros with this phone but not enough to be satisfied. I get stressed out the most with the touch screen. It's not worth it and I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone. The Instinct has left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm really skeptical about touch screens now. Unfortunately, I didn't notice any of these problems until after my warranty was up and I've chosen to just live with it.

Summary: Worst Samsung phone 2009-10-09
Comment: The only reason why i gave it 2 stars is because I like the voice mail and the live search.
Besides those two, the phone is Shhh!! This is currently my 6th phone because i kept bringing it back to Sprint. The phone freezes up, the screen malfunctions, when you take so many pictures with the phone the pictures stop showing up in order, the phone blanks out, the internet at times begins to stop working. its a really horrible phone that should have been recalled.
The last time I was at sprint, the rep told me that this phone was a bad product and that everyone has issues with their instinct. It was the most serviced phone.

Matter of fact, just thinking of this upsets me. I will take a star off this review to put it down to one!!!

Summary: Shame on you Samsung 2009-08-23
Comment: The Bad
1. Call quality is horrible on this phone tons of dropped calls and people complaining they can't hear me on the ones that do connect.
2. Web browser is worthless I wish they had not included it so I wouldn't have mistakenly tried to use it.
3. Support for third party apps is non existent trying to get opera mini on this phone to supplement the horrible browser was a chore.
4. Sprint TV and Radio are pathetic on this phone.
5. Battery life is pretty poor considering I barely used the phone for anything other than talking on it.
6. Software updates could have fixed some of these things but samsung doesn't seem to care.
7. Power cord is proprietary not mini or mirco usb. Really Samsung? This isn't 1998 there are standards now quit poaching people who already own accessories.
8. Phone started locking up all the time and having to be reset. I never used anything other than nav and phone and had no third party apps so really this just seems poor.
9. Touch screen does not register like more advanced phones and will scroll wildly through menus like your contacts and when you try to stop it will often select something you didn't want rather than stopping the scroll.
10. Marketing this phone to people as a competitor to the iphone is just wrong.
11. I used 24 megs of data my last month with the instinct in the first week with the Palm Pre I am at 800 megs that is how bad the browser/apps were on the instinct.

The Good
1. When navigation wasn't glitching out it worked great and was a great free feature. For most light to moderate gps users I think this could stop them from needing to buy a separate gps unit.
2. Visual voicemail is great and is one of those things that you don't realize how nice it is till you lose it.
